Yup - I was just thinking the other day ..... 4 months of misery until it starts to get better

I hate trying to give her enough exercise when she has to be on lead most of the time - she usually gets around 1 - 1.5 hours off lead (plus on lead on top of that a day) and, with the best will in the world, I can't replicate that on lead
I did take one of Ben's old leads with a flourescent tape down to pieces the other day and have stitched it onto one of her old collars - I have been letting her off in the park a bit (just to chase ball a few times) and it's fab as I can shine the torch and it picks up the strip BUT there's not many places I would risk letting her off ......

Just planning with winter walks with gitdog.
Still need to get his pulling under control, so mum won't take him out in the afternoon which was plan A.
He doesn't go off-lead or even on an extending lead at the moment, so I'm doing the 7am and 5.30 pm pavement walks in the dark. We're sticking to familiar walks as he's hyper in new places. Walks on the level as I'm unwilling to contemplate any hills with the prospect of ice, snow or anything slippy any time soon.
Plan B involved a couple of miles round the local lake in the evening, as I thought it was lit all the way round. Trial run tonight - no lights, rustling bushes, dog jumping out of his skin - won't be doing that again till the clocks change back again.
Plan c - absolutely no idea. I've got less than 24 hours to come up with a solution! All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I have massive and I mean MASSIVE field across the road BUT foxes come out at night and can not risk Zara trying to catch one and run across a busy road.....
So on lead after dark.....0 -
I make sure mine get good walks in the day but evenings are a problem. In the summer their last walk is about 9pm on a nearby field but you'd need to have a death wish to go there after dark.
It's just lead walks on the street I'm afraid. If Jack's off lead and sees a cat or squirrel in the dark, he'll be after it like a rocket and as he's black, it's hard to see him and cars are a risk so no choice there.
At dusk I put the red flashing lights on his collar - you can get them in pound shops - so at least I can see where he is.
Lucy, my other dog, is nearly 11 and not at all bothered about going out after dark, but Jack does get a bit mopey.
I'm lucky that I'm home with them all day though.0 -
I'm lucky that I work shifts, so apart from the very darkest midwinter days we usually manage to get a bit of daylight. I do miss those long summer days though where you can stroll through the park at 8.30pm in warmth...0

Our boy is walked off the lead in the morning in day light in the woods at present and then by OH in the dark off the lead in the woods or on the lead aound the roads.
He is a black dog but it is OK, we have been walking dogs through 18 winters in this way, the wood is adjacent to home, good path and OH has a good torch.
Roads are scarier as they are rural and some cars are just too fast for the conditions. If it is me walking though, I go along the roads because I am a worrier.:(0 -
Spirit, can you put something hi viz on him.
All mine have something hi viz just for walking at home in the dark ..I like to know wear they are if we do the longer route round edge of a field.0 -
You can get dog high viz at Pets at Home. They are only a couple of pounds. x0

My two have flashing collars and we meet up with pals same as always every evening, all armed with our torches, so they still get an hours run about off lead.:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0
