Induction every time unless you do asian style wok cooking at high temperatures and need a high output gas burner.

Induction runs at around 85%+ efficiency (meaning over 85% of energy consumed is used for cooking) while gas is at best 50%. Instant control. Safer. Easier to clean. A decent pan set is required for good performance. The induction compatible crap from supermarkets or Argos is no good. You hob is only as good as the pans you use. A set of pans from John Lewis is perfect.

BSH do induction hobs which are normally rated at 7.2kw going up to 10.8 kw. Some of these have power management allowing them to be rated at 13, 16 or 20A. This means you can plug it into a socket at 13A. The hob automatically limits the maximum power it draws and this is a problems only when using more than 2 rings at full power.

I have an electric oven with the ind hob.
They use more than a kettle.

You are meant to have two cables between your fuse box and kitchen.
One for elec oven and one for elec hob.

I however am getting away with one on 32a MCB.

It will only be an issue if you have all the hobs on and oven on high.
The MCB would trip and just needs resetting.
If it happens often get the 2nd cable fitted.

Well we do a lot of Indian cooking, only occasionally Chinese cooking but my wife has already raised deep concerns about all the brand new cooking wear we have been buying over the years and from the US during visits / family. So it would be an expensive switch but the clean look of the hob does attract me.

If budget is not a concern, well, lets say maybe £500 to £600ish, what decent spec can I expect to get and what makes do people recommend? I'm tempted by Samsung as they have made a real push into the UK consumer market in recent years so was thinking about getting many of their products.

What are the new gadget functions on these things?

Put a magnet on your current pans and if it sticks they are suitable to use on an induction hob.

Please be advise that your oven and hob have been dangerously fitted. You should always have a seperated supply for an Induction Hob and the Oven even if the cooker only needs a 13amp supply. You will find that if there is an electrical fire in you house your isurance may not cover the damage because of a wrongly fitted installation

Induction for me too. Best hob I've ever used and I think I've tried everything lol. We don't have gas where we live but I would have chosen induction anyway. Tried a single portable one when we were modernising this house. I would choose an electric oven too if I had the choice.

I opted for an electric oven for my parents house and we find the food is very try as it doesn't contain the moisture provided by the burning of gas in gas ovens.

I would say you are cooking incorrectly. You can always add moisture to the pans of roasts etc.

Electric ovens are the best as they give an even heat. Gas ovens are the worst IMHO.

I've used some horrible gas ovens, but the good ones are very good. Same for electric ovens. To say they have even heat is not true for all of them, I've used some which had very intense hot spots.

I like gas best though as a general rule. It's fast to heat up and adjusts quickly too.
