  • Different idea, but what about an ex-track car. Someone else has squeezed a huge engine into a tiny chassis, had their fun around the track with it, and is passing it on to the next person?
Do not know where to start looking, maybe ask around at trackday events for starters?
Granted, you will know that the poor car has been thrashed!

Get your mitts on a Peugeot 205 with an Mi16 engine conversion.

Although the engine might only be circa 160 bhp the car itself weighs about the same as a crisp packet and is very quick (0-60 in around 6-ish seconds although it feels faster) and handles well too.

I owned one for a good 18 months and it was an absolute hoot to drive.

A good example can be picked up for under £2k usually.

    Fiat coupe 20v 2.0 turbo. 0-60 sub 6s, 150mph easily

Don't wreck it though, there aren't many around and its probably the only interesting car fiat have ever made.

You don't need lots of power, just good brakes and suspension.

How about a cheap 1.8 Mk1 MX5, I know where there's one for sale for £600. Use some of the rest for a good brake overhaul with performance pads and a refresh of the suspension.

Agreed; but don't forget your curling tongs...

Also another vote for a classic Scooby. I've had mine in storage with the odd run around the farm yard waiting for the prices to recover...fat chance. 80k miles still goes a scalded cat and now worth about £800....

Think you might struggle at 2k for a good one. They seem to be appreciating.

However, the shed of the week has the same basic ethos and the OP would have a load of cash to spare for new rubber etc

What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

Volvo t4 200 bhp, upratable to 270 bhp with a £60 chip upgrade, can be bought around £1500.
Unlike an Alfa or Fiat, it will actually make it to the track.
    Be happy...;)

    E36/5 (1993-2000)

BMW compact engine sizes vary there is one 2.3 i think shorter body than the standard 3 series.

Seen a few around here 1999 spec i'm sure you can pick some up under 2k

I'll have you know that compared to my Talbot Horizon that disintegrated under a jet wash my Alfa GTV MK1 was a Rolls Royce.:p:D
