I've to have heard of "Disclosure Scotland" being used when it comes to the most basic of DBS check (as someone familiar with the enhanced)
I don't think you've much to worry about Eddie as you have found out yourself and I'm not sure they would let you start/have allowed to continue if they were in the slightest already alerted or alarmed
Different industries (and I'd go as far as different companies view things different too) All the best genuinely, everyone deserves a second chance and it's obvious to see you were just scared, so shame on some x

I got confirmation today from my work program adviser that they are in fact using disclosure scotland...
And as it happens, disclosure scotland can only provide "basic" checks for the UK, standard and enhanced have to be within Scotland.
I'm 97.8% sure that the blank I signed was a disclosure scotland form, I even looked at pictures of the forms from disclosure scotland and DBS to try and jog my memory, I'm almost sure it was a disclosure scotland... I don't think I've ever seen a DBS form before I looked at one on the internet earlier.
In regards to why they are using disclosure scotland... I can only put it down to the cost, being cost effective while doing basic checks in bulk... only disclosure scotland offer such a service...
On the other hand, there's still that 2.2% uncertainty that I might have signed a blank DBS on that day, in which case it will show an undeclared conviction.. then I've lost my job.
Well, thats one lesson learned. Dont fill in a blank form ever again, Id never fill in a disclosure form without seeing what was being sent away, but you live and learn.
As for the rest of your posts. A lot of people hit hard times, Ive been unemployed for a few spells. Ive done work from £5 odd an hour, this was ten years ago or so, to work that was reasonably well paid and everything in between.
Talk of going to a life of crime if you lose a job, your choice. But Id rather be skint and be able to live my life knowing that no one else suffered from my actions, than someone earning 5 grand a month through crime.
And talk of killing yourself due to being unemployed. Well, if you ever lose someone that way and I have done, you might think twice on it. I spent 2 years out of work from the age of 23-25 and yes it was miserable and you think you are never going to get through it, but you do.
I understand your worry, but rather than assume the worst, if the worst does happen, you'll get through it one way or another.
And yes, Ive been in jobs where I wondered if I might lose it, nothing to do with a disclosure, to do with checks on my health because I had suffered from work related stress, that I declared.
But if I had lost that job and I would have been gutted, something else would have come along.
Anytime Ive ever had an employer fill in a disclosure form for me, Ive been there with them when they've filled in the application.
Good luck with it.0 -
Enhanced shows every piece of information about you that the police have on their records.
Mate.. seriously calm down.
I think you have a warped understanding of CRB checks and what they reveal.
I was arrested moons ago for something that I hadn't done but as the duty solicitor told me was on the scale of 1 to 10, a 10. I spent hours being questioned, had the mug shots, DNA etc done. Nothing came of it because I'd done nothing wrong but they felt the need to arrest me for questioning.
Few years later I'm in a public authority job. A year or two after starting they decided they needed to do an enhanced CRB on all of us. Naturally several of us got a bit twitchy lol and one or two asked questions about their job security if it came back with something etc.
Anyway a couple of months later my enhanced CRB certificate comes back. Guess what? Every single box stated 'None Recorded'. There was no mention of my arrest either. My application clearly stated the address I was at when I was arrested.
I had another run in with the fuzz when I bought a car a few years back. Got tugged for insurance (I was insured but as I'd done it that day on the phone it wasn't on the MID and plods ANPR camera picked me up). While checking who I was, and confirming my identity on the PNC they came up with that one arrest. They also had the address where I was living at the time.
So to recap, my ENHANCED crb check had no arrest mentioned. I had later dealings with the fuzz and they had a clear record of it.
Enhanced CRB checks CAN reveal police information but at the discretion of the Chief Constable for that force. Anything old from a mis-spent youth or not pursued isn't going to be on there (unless you've been accused of child abuse - that would almost certainly be stated).
So my advice to you would be stop worrying. You're not even understanding the checks properly and you're assuming that it's going to screw you over.
Do us all a favour, keep at it and don't get too worked up. Sure if it goes pear shaped you gotta do what you gotta do to survive and keep food in your mouth but you may well find it's not an issue and you can continue living legitimately.0 -
Regarding your actual question. I find it odd that they would use Disclosure Scotland being in England. To be honest, it really sounds like they've asked you to complete the wrong form and that's why they asked you to sign a second one...?
It's not unusual. I've had a disclosure done via disclosure scotland and I'm definitely in england - nowhere near scotland or the border.
(and yes I do mean a seperate disclosure and enhanced checks)0 -
Just to be clear, my record contains nothing which would prevent me from keeping this job.
My concerns come from the fact that I only declared a conviction which will show up on a basic disclosure, and did not declare a spent conviction from 10 years ago which would show up on a standard disclosure.
The procedure we followed during application involved filling out a basic disclosure, but if you've read this thread you will see that due to recent events... I have concerns that or may (but most likely not) be more than a basic... I explain my confusion many times in the thread.
As far as getting jobs with criminal records is concerned, that is not what I'm here to discuss, I know where I stand in terms of that, I'll never be able to be a bus driver/taxi driver, and I'll never be able to work with/care for the vulnerable because any conviction no matter what it is will make that highly unlikely... other than that, I know what I can and not can realistically apply for.
I was referring more to your reactions to people on here. When someone commented that they would hire a person with a clean record over a criminal conviction you came up with 'Oh yeah, we're scumbags, I get it.'
Accusing people of making sweeping generalisations when you have done it yourself (and openly ranted about going back to a life of crime) just didn't help your cause much!
I genuinely hope it all goes well for you. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

I wouldn't worry about it too much at all Eddie as:
a). 99.9% of things we worry and stress about never happen
and moreover b). these types of organisations such as CRB checkers, HR, managers, a hell of a lot of companies - you'd be surprised for want of a better phrase how many 'don't know their !!!! from their elbow'.
I've stressed like anything regarding if I'll get a rented house through references in the past. I remember my 1st house - my landlord never even checked my references, then my 2nd house the landlord only checked 1 reference and never even asked me for a second reference. I stressed for aaaaages about losing my potential new homes over these references falling through, and it all turned out ok.
I'm sure your CRB checks will be fine - if they took it that seriously I'm sure they wouldn't let you start work without the CRB coming back first. I remember I had to wait weeks and weeks for a CRB check to come back for a care job before they'd even give me an induction, let alone start!
Try not to worry - nothing is worth making yourself ill over, I'm sure it will turn out fine. Everything will be alright
Let us know how you get on.0 -
I don't post on here much but I completely understand what the original person who posted is going through. I went for an interview at a post office for a post office counter clerk position, I was given the job and then they asked for me to do a standard CRB check. This is when it became difficult as when I was in my teens and in care,I got into a huge amount of trouble with the police so I have multiple convictions, which of course I take full responsibility for; I am now in my late 30's. Anyway long story short I told the employer everything, the position was put on hold because they still wanted me to work there, however they needed to go higher up. I had to write a letter disclosing every conviction of which I said I take full responsibility for; but I also told them how I had now turned my life around and would never dream of re-offending ever. This is in the past for me, I have moved on, I have worked and looked after my family and gained a degree. I received a letter back 2 weeks later and I was given the job. Sometimes there is light at the end of the tunnel with a little determination.0

Well good for you, if you're satisfied with working 20 hours/week at tesco, struggling to get by and bus'ing it to work in the morning... just as long as you're not "breaking the law"... I wish you all the best in life.
But some people have more hunger than you, more ambition for a finer life style and want to enjoy nicer things in life... unfortunately some of them were not born with a silverspoon stuck up their !!!!, some of them made mistakes in the past... and they don't have legit opportunities..
They have to do it their own way, by any means... some of them invent things, some of them make individual contributions to sciences and arts and get rewarded, some of them start a successful business, some of them reverse stolen cars into the shopfronts of jewellery shops and empty them, some of them supply a demand for drugs...
Some of them are given a decent opportunity in a decent job which allows them to breeze the rent and save up for a nice car, go on holiday once or twice a year...
Either way, they have more money than part timers at tesco.
Are you also known as Martina Cole? Or are you just a muppet?0 -
I dont think Martina Cole would be wanting a job working for the post office or posting on here. Shes ultra mega rich and even if she wasnt she'd know enough people to sort something out without getting her nails dirty.0
-
I often wonder how many of rich people who would otherwise be criminals, and are only shielded from crime because the money they have affords them avoidance?0
