There goes my job... seriously DEPRESSED

I've got the job, I'm currently employed and being paid for my work.
The company are currently awaiting my background check, along with many others.
I am paranoid about a confusing situation, I filled in a basic check, yet in the induction where we discussed everything about the job it was worded as "standard", and at the organization which conducts and and provides the checks, "basic" and "standard" are 2 different things.
I was asked to sign a new blank form, because a mistake had been made on my original, I am paranoid that it will be sent off as standard and not basic...
Not because I am worried about what they will find, but because I did not disclose what they would find on a standard check,
I would be more than happy to disclose it, it was something which happened 10 years ago and also something which would not effect my position anyway... however the fact that I did not disclose it would effect me, (I didn't disclose because a basic check does not require disclosure of a spent conviction).
In regards to everything else you wrote... you're out of touch with reality... you've lived by the book your whole life and anybody who hasn't is automatically a scumbag and can never be trusted again, I get it...0 -
Oh Eddie, get the chip off your shoulder. I work within the law and there are job that convictions automatically prohibit you from doing and it is common sense that a person who has been guilty of a crime related to that industry would not be the first choice of an employer when faced with a selection of employees who haven't got a record.
Yes, it sucks, but in the current job market people can and do pick and choose. I'd have no problem hiring someone with traffic offences for a non-driving job, but I wouldn't hire a convicted thief to check my tills.
If the offences were committed prior to your 18th birthday, then in many cases they would be classed as 'sealed' records anyway, so probably wouldn't show up.
I have admiration for you trying to make a clean go of your life, but lose the attitude towards those who are wary. You did commit a crime, and you have to deal with the fact that it has far-reaching consequences. I wish you the very best of luckSome days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

If you filled in and completed the first form, why did they only ask you to sign the 2nd and not fill it in?0

My only guess is that an N/A section of the form had been crossed out, and they wanted to be sure that it was neat and valid?
I did not have to fill it in because we were getting on with the induction and the assistant said she would copy from the original.0 -
Oh dear...Incorrect.
Yes I do wake up a 4:30am to deliver mail, and yes I do pay tax.
So now what do you have to say about claiming shelf stackers contribute more to society than I do...?
This thread is not hypothetical... I've started my job, I'm waiting for my background check to come back, and I'm panicking because of the confusing circumstances surrounding my background check.. filling out a basic disclosure scotland form, the women in the induction talking about "standard CRB check", me having to sign a new blank form , ect etc, that is what this thread is about.
OK - I read your posts in haste. The impression I got was this job offer hinged on a clear CRB (DBS?) check.
You are not better than Tesco workers because you work in the postal service. Both jobs provide a service to the community. I have a lot of respect for shelf stackers even though I earn more than them. I hope this puts it into perspective for you.
Regarding your actual question. I find it odd that they would use Disclosure Scotland being in England. To be honest, it really sounds like they've asked you to complete the wrong form and that's why they asked you to sign a second one...?England or Wales?
If you are an individual working or an organisation with positions working in England or Wales you should apply to the Criminal Records Bureau for Standard and Enhanced disclosures.

I can't understand why they would use the Disclosure Scotland system. Even in large organisations that I've applied for jobs at - where they are sending in many at a time - they have used the DBS.0 -
Are they even allowed to fill it in for you ?, or at least she should of shown it to you to check before it was handed in.0
-
I don't think they are allowed to fill it in for you either.
I forgot to say that with a lot of large organisations, their staff recruitment process is bound by policies i.e. a prospective manager may well be happy to take someone with a criminal record on at their discretion but the organisation's policy may prevent them from doing so.
Personally in your situation I would call to clarify and explain yourself as best as possible. If they find out they find out, and I'm sure you want to give yourself the best chance to keep your job.0 -

Just to be clear, my record contains nothing which would prevent me from keeping this job.
My concerns come from the fact that I only declared a conviction which will show up on a basic disclosure, and did not declare a spent conviction from 10 years ago which would show up on a standard disclosure.
The procedure we followed during application involved filling out a basic disclosure, but if you've read this thread you will see that due to recent events... I have concerns that or may (but most likely not) be more than a basic... I explain my confusion many times in the thread.
As far as getting jobs with criminal records is concerned, that is not what I'm here to discuss, I know where I stand in terms of that, I'll never be able to be a bus driver/taxi driver, and I'll never be able to work with/care for the vulnerable because any conviction no matter what it is will make that highly unlikely... other than that, I know what I can and not can realistically apply for.0 -

I got confirmation today from my work program adviser that they are in fact using disclosure scotland...
And as it happens, disclosure scotland can only provide "basic" checks for the UK, standard and enhanced have to be within Scotland.
I'm 97.8% sure that the blank I signed was a disclosure scotland form, I even looked at pictures of the forms from disclosure scotland and DBS to try and jog my memory, I'm almost sure it was a disclosure scotland... I don't think I've ever seen a DBS form before I looked at one on the internet earlier.
In regards to why they are using disclosure scotland... I can only put it down to the cost, being cost effective while doing basic checks in bulk... only disclosure scotland offer such a service...
On the other hand, there's still that 2.2% uncertainty that I might have signed a blank DBS on that day, in which case it will show an undeclared conviction.. then I've lost my job.0 -
Eddie, apart from the driving offenses all of your criminal activity was carried-out pre-16. I might be wrong, but doesn't your criminal record reset at 16 (or might be 17). In which case your misdamenours committed as a 12-14 year old won't show up anyway.Never Knowingly Understood.
