MG ZR Car SOS

I have an MG ZR 2002 model.

I think the battery went flat at the same time as the battery went in the key fob.

I've replaced the battery in key fob but it still hasn't "linked" to the car.

I've tried to jump start the car but without the key fob switching off the immobiliser it's not having it.

My mega problem is the car's parked in a garage of a recently sold house and I have to get this moved before Friday!!

Would this be able to be towed without deactivating the immobiliser?

Thanks

I would say yes, but remember there would be no power steering or brake servo assistance so it would be safer on a trailer or at least an A Frame or solid bar.

I wouldn't tow it far with a rope to be honest.

    Thanks.

Be great if any MG ZR experts could help also with the issue.

I'm on it. They're more interested in suping up the cars, rather them working.

Agree with above, but sometimes old Rover systems need perseverance with you sitting in the drivers seat, key in ignition, alternating between the lock/unlock and trying to start it. Many's the time, your just about to say, "This is fu - , then, oh. it's started". You may be lucky and find the code in the car to use the drivers door over-ride, but if you just tow it, the sounder will go off.

Have you checked the handbook for an alternative immobiliser deactivation method.

You use the eka code which you enter by following a specific procedure with the key in the lock or ignition, (I can't remember which but it's all in the manual).

    Tried this http://www.remotekey.co.uk/cars/MG/mg-zr/faq.asp last night.

Wonder if the fob has broke, but don't have much time to get new one and try again.

Working 8-6 isn't helping this be resolved either.

    thanks for replies so far

Try changing the batteries again. I had a similar problem to you once with one of our cars and the central locking didn't work for months (though in fairness the immobiliser was fine). It turned out the batteries I'd bought were just rubbish!

Also, when you look inside the key again, there should be a little transponder chip there somewhere - they're usually a little black square bit near the key blade. These pick up power from the ignition barrel loop so don't use the main key battery (just like RF tags in chain stores on expensive items). This is picked up by the ignition barrel loop and if its not there (eg if it accidentally fell out when you last changed the batteries) then the car won't disable the immobiliser and it won't start.

I found this on google images - your key may be different but the principle is the same:

    Transponder%20Chip%20Location%20Inside%20Old%20Style%20Key.jpg

IF you find yours is missing, check the floor, under the TV, in the hoover, down the back of the sofa etc.

As for moving the car, yes as long as you put it in neutral and take the brakes off it will roll like any other car. You'll need the key in the ignition and turned on to deactivate the steering lock (this is usually mechanical so the transponder won't affect it) but as pointed out above, you won't have power steering or brake servo.

I had this, i eventually got it to work, but it was a high level of using the key and remote fob to get then to sync again.

Also you did put the battery in the right way?
