Laptop death ?

Connectors should match. Take the laptop drive out and have a look (NB. it may have an adapter fitted to enable fitting into the laptop.)
If you don't want to open the desktop a USB external adapter for 2.5 HD may be a good idea (only a couple of quid on Ebay).0 -

I have already removed the drive and yes it does appear to be the same size
Next step - to hope that my desktop will boot on the laptop drive (I need to back up sent emails from it) - the rest of my docs etc should be readily copied0 -

A real 'IT Technician' would not try to boot up a desktop using a laptop drive! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
What do you think of http://www.novatech.co.uk/laptop/range/novatechnfinityn1405.html as a replacement ?0

£630 with no operating system? No thanks!
Small screen, OK it's got a lot of RAM and a reasonable SSD, but you'll be over £700 with an operating system on it.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -

What would you recommend then ?
I am looking, primarily for a fast booting device (ie SSD) - the OS needn't be a real problem !!
The physical size is unimportant0 -

I have an I7 desktop with SSD and 12Gb RAM - So really only web browsing, downloading music and videos, general "messing about", emails - nothing particularly heavy useage-wise !!
Video editing etc is done on my desktop.
Just to sit downstairs by the fire in the winter - rather than upstairs in the cold study.
Considering the specs of the ex-laptop (4Gb RAM, 256Gb HDD, 2.2Ghz single core AMD - did me fine - I guess a low spec will suffice
I just fancy an SSD (combo drive ?) - for quick boot up ...
preferably max about £600 - £7000
