may seem obvious - but has she got one of the email prviders that block 1899 and 18866 emails, like AOL?

    Thanks all,

We tried the 0808 number shortly after registering and it gave a recorded (voice) error (can't remember what is said) so thought we had just been too quick off the mark. We weren't blocked from the call1899 site and she appeared to fill in the complete dialogue for correct registration. Even if telewest block the 0808, it's the lack of feedback to the application which she can't understand.
    Nice to save.

    Did you consider pandapone's suggestion?
Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
    They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").

    Hi April2,

The telewest link gives her a 256kb link using blueyonder isp. I guess that if she accessed call1899.com to get the information and complete the form then blueyonder was not blocking access. In addition she uses yahoo for her email account so that should not be blocked either.

If you think that may still be a problem then please let me know.
    Nice to save.

Could it be that yahoo have sent any email from 1899 to the trash can?

Just read through the FAQ of 1899 and that seems to be a possibility.

Have a look at Martin's thread here regarding questions he put to 18866 about AOL.

edited to add: Blue if we don't find an answer to this I'll put her number on my account and pay the bill myself :rotfl:

You've missed the point. I don't dispute that she accessed the site and 'signed up' but whether she would have received the e-mail acknowledgement is the question.

I know some sites block incoming mail from any @yahoo.com and @yahoo.co.uk address because they're used for so much spamming.

Similarly, yahoo appear to have an over-active junk mail blocker (to get their own back?) so it may well be that 1899's reply disappeared in that way.

She may wish to consider setting up a specific @galaway.com address for 1899 (free for anyone to use with [incoming] POP3 as well).

    Thanks all,

April2, You're quite right, I did miss your point. It seems as though the registration worked and the confirmation email was blocked by yahoo. My mind had not been on that track so had misinterpreted the previous comments.

Anyway, now daughter's back from wandering the bens and glens of bonnie scotland I had her try making another call on 1899 (as suggested by April2 and Aiadi) AND IT WORKED. So we must have been too quick off the mark when we tried it for the first time, which led to all this discussion.

So thanks again to everyone for their help and patience and sorry for the time I've wasted by being so thick. Doh.
    Nice to save.

Have just started a new thread on this topic but I registered this morning having used 18866 for a few months, and got this email back

Unfortunately your 1899 internet registration has failed.
Due to lack of capacity it is currently not possible to register. Please wait at least 6 weeks before attempting to register again. Our apologies for the inconvenience.
    Kind regards,
    1899 Customer Services

Oh well. Missed out on slightly cheaper mobile calls!

Have you tried again, using a mobile phone number to sign up with first, and then once signed up, adding the landline you wish to make the calls from. This should get around the lack of capacity signup problem.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)
