I have a couple of these old Data Sims (1GB for £15 and it doesn't expire after 30 days, if used every 6 months), one is cut to fit in an iPad & the other is in a Dongle.

I very rarely use them now (I use my Ovivo Data Sim), but I keep them active but using them every few months.

Today when I used them, I checked the balance (as always) and they both showed an expiry date of 26/01/2014; I logged into My Vodafone and they both showed a balance of of the credit i had left on them both (which was correct one being about £12 & the other about £6) but it also both showed 1024MB and an expiry date of 26/01/2014...!!!

Doesn't anyone know if Vodafone have changed the T&C's on these Data Sims so they now do expire?

Cheers

I've just checked my dongle account, and it is also showing I have 1024 of 1024Mb remaining and expiring on 26/1/14.

There is a thread on vodafone eForums in Other manufacturers / Mobile broadband called "Mobile Broadband PAYG change to top ups". I'm still working through the thread, but it looks like they have given us all a 1Gb usage and then change terms to let it expire. Not sure if they can do this.

Just reading through that thread and it seems that they are changing it over to a 30 day expiring contract, but giving 1GB for free that lasts for 90 days before it switches over......

Well that's my two sims hitting the bin soon and another Ovivo Sim being ordered. Now how to get my remaining credit back....

  • Hi

I currently have one of these data sims with a lot of credit on it. Only thing is I can't even seem to register to sim, I type in the sims number to register but it says sorry please try again later. This is because I think the sim can't receive text messages (they send a verification code) - is this normal? I tried sending and receiving text mesages with the sim using the SMS application with the vodafone software and I tried putting the sim into a phone and texting a number but it never sends, it can't make phone calls either (think that's too be expected though with data sim?). It can do two things, show the sims number or check the balance.

Anyway I will ring Vodafone and try and get my money back off the sim (unlikely) and/or try and get them to enable texts if they can, then I can at least use the credit in something like fishtext (they can charge your sim card and take off credit) ideally I'd like to enable carrier billing and be able to buy android apps but I don't know if that's possible.
  • I've been in contact with vodafone, I mentioned I wanted to get the credit off my data sim so they said I could put the credit onto a normal vodafone phone sim, so I have ordered a phone sim of eBay and will do it tomorrow.

He mentioned that the credit would be used every 30 days, so they might take £5 off first month, then £5 off second month. But I would rather not do that.

Anyone looking for a data sim that doesn't expire should try out Samba Mobile (you have to watch ads to gain the allowance but it never expires, it does if you *buy* a topup though)
  • Good old Vodafone. We have several of these at work, and phones too.
We will be moving them away from Vodafone as and when contracts allow.

    Ovivo should be better.

I have one of those too, not really used it yet. I'm trying to persuade my family to go from giffgaff to Ovivo but they don't seem to want to, I guess they think giffgaff is cheap enough (we top up enough to get the free giff2giff calls), I doubt they will want to pay the £20 either. I had to basically pay for everyones £10 topup to get them onto giffgaff in the first place!

I don't use samba much either, just came in handy when we didn't have the internet for a while, it uses three's network too and is fairly fast, around 3mbps where I am (countryside).

I should try my Ovivo for data though as this month I think they have double data (1gb instead of 500mb?)

    Lee,

Can you tell me how I can transfer the balance on my Two Data Sims (non-expiring) to my PAYG Vodafone Sim. At least that way I can use my credit up rather than just loose it.

    Cheers
