    Debt-free and Proud!
Hooray, Monday is nearly over! :j

    SFD- Number 3 Today
Declutter- 20+/ 20 -Popped to local Charity shop today. Lost count after 20 of how many items went in the bag, but a good mixture of clothes, books, cuddly toys and some bedding.

Popped into the little local library and found a lil book on Neuro Linguistic Programming which caught my attention. I haven't a library card so I came home and downloaded some free samples from different NLP books off of Amazon to have a gander at. Not even sure what drew me to the book in the first place...odd.

Thanks to those who shared advice/ links to freezing foods- I get in a bit of a muddle with this so very helpful!!

Mrs Toast - Hope you had a lovely birthday yesterday! :bdaycake: Here is a Gluten free cake! :T

    Hi everyone!!!

Made another SFD today = number 3

I agree about how tempting it is to just wander into supermarkets... now I'm off for a few weeks I am going to have to resist making outings like that just to pass the time... I think I'm going to set designated shopping days and then stick to it.

I've put money aside for the gym (don't want to join a gym in Manchester and pay joining fees etc so have to pay £5 per visit - which is expensive I know. I could just go jogging but I need the weights equipment etc so no way around it...) Sooo... when I go to the gym - am not counting it as a spend day otherwise that's 6 SFDs down the pan in 2 weeks and the money is separately saved already.

I've been a bit absent lately what with work and getting used to the darker days which always affects my moods... Hopefully I will be back into the swing of things in the weeks to follow.

Happy Birthday for yesterday also Mrs Toast!!!

    :)

  • Evening Peeps,

I have an alternative "diet" too. I try and eat Paleo for at least 80% of the time. Not because I am intolerant or allergic particularly, I just find I feel better on it and it helps with my sports performance. For me this means no dairy, no grains, no sugar, no legumes (peas and beans etc), no starchy carbs, no processed foods, only good fats (like coconut oil, avocado oil and olive oil) and basically nothing artificial. This can get quite expensive though as I get through fresh meat and veg like theres no tomorrow.

Another NSD day today. I cycled to work and back which is about 15 miles round trip but I'm not counting this in my exercise days though as it is standard. Was too pooped to got to the gym but I am definitely going tomorrow, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as I have stuff booked.

So my budget and totals look like this:

No Spend Day (NSD) aiming for 25/30 - am on 2/30
No Alcohol Day (NAD) aiming for 25/30 - am on 4/30
No Car Day (NCD) aiming for 25/30 - am on 2/30
Exercise Day (ED) aiming for 20/30 - am on 1/30
Lunches to work aiming for 14/14 - am on 2/14
Extra Income (EI) aiming for £80 - am on £3.96
Grocery Budget aiming for £100 - am on £63.84
Beauty Budget aiming for £10 - am on £0
Fuel Budget aiming for £35 - am on £30.27
Canteen/Coffee Free Day aiming for 30/30 - am on 4/30
Charity Item aiming for 20/20 am on 0/20
Food Bank aiming for £3 - am on £0

Need to buy an envelope and postage for a DVD I have sold on Amazon which is going to mess up a NSD. Will have to do this in the next few days so will have a think to see if I need to buy anything else on that day too.

  • Hello everyone!

I was determined when I first joined this threat! Then I disappeared and my habit of wasting has hunted me back again! :(

However, I do not think I have done bad... yes I wanted to save 13,000 this year and that was very optimistic! So far I only managed to save 9,000 and I did not saved any money since August because refurbishing my house also costs money and paying the personal loan and the two CCs too!
I have been spending a lot going out with friends to the extent that I am feeling sick, so there was not chance of me refusing dates out as requirement for November's challenge...nevertheless, there is always a chance to rectify our behaviour... when I come here and read some of the threats and your post and see how much effort and will you put to pursue your DFW journey I feel inspired. So I guess I will do my best for self control.

    Regards to all,

  • Good evening,

    1/25 NSDs managed.
filled in my claims form - so should be receiving £75 (pretax)

I feel utterly drained at the moment - think it's leaving for, and travelling home from, work in the dark.

Hello Abundant! OMG, have you moved up to Manchester? Shhh don't tell anyone but I stopped my gym membership in January only for me to go back in July again and I also subcribed my daughter who has only used it once since then :o fortunatelly, our membership expires on December ( 6 months contract), after that no more gyms ... :A
Lovely reading to you, and yes..stay away from the shops ha ha

Gosh, I can't believe how quick this thread moves! So much to catch up on each day - it's great!

Mrs Toast Happy Birthday for yesterday, hope you had a good day.
Thriftylass Me and Mr Tiptoes argued in the early days of our wedding planning but it seems to come together when you realise what each other's bottom lines are and what you both want from the day. Good luck with it all...it will be worth it!

Well, SFD yesterday and today, so I am off the blocks. Hoping not to spend now till Friday, and then not again till the following Friday. Should be do-able. The only problem is trying to coincide our going out events with big shop days, when I am also working full time! If we shopped at a 24 hour supermarket it would be easier but we go to Morrisons as we have a 10% off card as a relative works for them. Which is fantastic, but limits you to getting it done before 10pm. Might have to try an early pre work shop now the days are colder and the stuff can stay in the car boot all day without cooking!

Right, off to play with spreadsheets... see you tomorrow guys

Saving £9000 can in no way be prefaced with 'only'! This is a fantastic amount of saving! Especially as you only went up to August.:T:T:T You've done so well to do that, so don't beat yourself up. Just jjmp on the next bandwagon that fits your needs and go for it once more.

  • Checking in with SFD number 4! Lunch with friends went well today, my home cooked lunch and cake were well received. I really like that being part of this challenge made me stop and think before heading out to get stuff in for lunch. Its a little silly that my first thought wasn't to see what I had in but to think that I need to go shopping - hence why I'm bleating on about it!

Glad to see some other bakers on here too :p I've baked my own bread for quite some time now. Find that my health is better for it too as shopbought bread is too full of yeast, food make-up and other nasties which makes me bloated (sorry, possible TMI!). My mom baked during my childhood too and I want the same for my children.

I'm aiming to make tomorrow and Wednesday SFD's too and have a meal plan in place to cover dinner those two days. That would make my shop day Thursday which I also hope to make my petrol-filling day too. Thursday is a day when the local shop here gives tripple loyalty points so shopping on that day is quite MSE
My worry and planning problem is not this week but making my shop last an entire week without top-up shops. Its my birthday tomorrow and I will host a family dinner on saturday so need to get bits on for that as well as regular meals. My main worry making the fruit and veg last without them going off. I gather some of you batch cook - is that how you make your veg last?

    Onwards and upwards people! :T

  • Never thought about freezing it...I am so unsure about what I can and cannot freeze. I really need an idiots guide to home baking/cooking (does anyone know of such a book??!)

    >

I freeze most things, and have never had a problem with freezing chocholate cake with frosting on (or carrot cake or lemon drizzle, etc). To make the frozen cake nicer I tend to freeze it as soon as it has been cooled and covered with the frosting. I like to freeze the cake flat (create a flat surface in your freezer if it is more like a tetris game, as mine is!) and freeze it uncovered. When it is frozen I cover it in cling film. When I want to defrost I place on plate and loosen cling film to prevent the frosting from being squished (but I'm a little perfectionist). Makes it look like brand new.

I freeze double cream also and it is fine to whip (despite some saying it can't be whipped into cream ones frozen). The only thing is that there are tiny specks in the cream. But used inside a cake or on fruit no-one will know and it certainly do not taste nice.

What I have not had success freezing out of its packaging, however, is smoked salmon. No idea why but it looked like dry partchment and did not look any better for defrosting.

    Sorry for the freezing ramble!
