Just Say NOvember 2013!!!

  • Hi NOvembererers,

My first check in! I've been a long time lurker on NSK's threads so feel I know a wee bit about some of you - so a little about me:

I live with my very lovely OH. We do well financially as he has a very well paid job and mine isn't too bad. We bought a flat in the summer and our finances have finally settled down. I watch our household budget very carefully so we've got growing savings and plenty put aside for holidays and treats.

Despite my good housekeeping, I have a really bad personal habit of putting things on a credit card - mostly plane and train fares to see friends and the occasional binge in TK to the Maxx. The balance creeps up then I have a couple of tight months, pay it off and the cycle starts again.

My goal in NOvember is to 1. pay it off in full then 2. start fund for clothes and transport which I'll top up every month. The idea being I will only then spend money I have and not charge it then forget about it thus the cycle will be broken :A That's where the 100.00 will go if I make it. I aim to have 300.00 before I arrange any travel / venture to the shops. Hopefully will have that by the start of December.

So, after a weekend of planning and a very strategically spendy Saturday, my totals are:

Food: 153.32 /180 [ cupboards and freezer are full and OH under strict instructions not to buy anything!]
    Christmas: 22.80/120
Flat repairs: 0/60 [we need a kitchen door fixed]
    SFDs: 1/25
Make 100: 41.25 [sold a mobile phone. Hitting up Ebay next!]
    Lunch: 2/30 [do this anyway]

    Otherwise spends break down as:
    Gym: 25.00 / 50.00
    Hair: 0/ 80.00
    Caledonia: 0/ 80.00
Misc: 0/80 [allowing myself 20.00 p/w but hope to underspend here]

I know both the gym and my hair cut are an extravagance but my only ones TBH - don't smoke, have a car or go out very often! I'm going to Scotland in 2 weeks on business but extended over the weekend to see my family. Will also have my only night out there. Have budgeted 80.00 for meal with friends and other incidental expenses over 4 days but will be with family mostly so don't expect to spend it all. Work paid for flight :)

So other than my jaunt to the salon and weekend in Scotland, I am mostly planning to hibernate through NOvember. Worked and played far too hard in October so a few nights in / healthy visits to the gym will do me no harm! Like a few others, I'm also trying to cut down on booze for the month so have set some totals for that:

Gym visits: 0/12 [going later today!]
    AFDs: 1/25

    Good luck everybody!

    Morning all.

Gah, I'm hungover from a Halloween party we had at ours yesterday. Spent far too much on the food/drink as well so feeling guilty about that too. Onwards and upwards though, what's done is done.

Still only on 1 SFD for the month but hoping today will be number 2. OH gave me some money to get a McDon4lds breakfast and I'm off to take some stuff back to Pr1mark at lunchtime. Also have a voucher for a free nail varnish from Debenhams so will pick that up and then sell it on Eb4y! Got a card in my subscription copy of Glamour for what I'm assuming is £3 to spend in the Body Shop so going to pop in and see what I can get for free.

Still waiting to sell my items on Ebay. Made £4 selling some of DSs old cars though so £4/£80 so far.

  • ALHOA!!! Well now ain't it a chilly one this morning!!! I have read another two pages since I posted last night.... Forgot to say a massive HAPPY BIRTHDAY to MrsToast - forgive me?

My friend announced her pregnancy on Saturday night so this seems like the time of year for it... So Thrifty I think you are allowed to have a moment of madness when it comes to money issues. But as was already stated in the grand scheme of things £8k is not massive. My pregnant friend had 250 people at her wedding.. my mum asked me would I actually know 250 if it was my wedding - yeah thanks Mum...:)....So umm Thrifty... how does one acquire an invite.....(kidding)

Lillian - hung over on a school day! Honestly what's a girl to think! What did you dress up as more importantly...And spill - how much was too much spent?

AutumnLeaf - I kinda did what you did with grocery money... nearly at max limits with only 4 days in - am determined to hammer out 7 SFD's in a row though!!

HM you have just reminded me about a quilt that I don't need... LLL is taking my massive unneccessary mirror ( I have two others ) to the charity shop today with everything else so I don't have to lug it like a lunatic... might go text her now to take the bedding too....

Meeting at work soon so I shall check in soon! LOVING these updates!!

I know, It's just the thought of spending that much money on one day and the realisation what the weddings must have cost that we went to as guests. And I guess 100 people isn't that much only about 80 adults (maybe 35 couple, some singles etc) and kids. At least now that we have a definite aim I can say more easily no to OH when he wants to spend money :D

Well, having already spent my budget, I decided we needed beer for the dads and some houmous - £41 later I came home... still, we now have loads of wine so shouldn't need to buy any for the rest of the month! I didn't dress up, was a party for the kids so DS was a "spooky pumpkin" :)

    Hi there folks.

Going to be good and stay in the office lunchtime, full of cold and brrr its freezing out there. Shock to the system walking the dog this morning before 7am suppose its been mild until now.

Need some shopping but can wait until tomorrow. Filled two charity bags and off they went this morning still have a few items in my garage that need to go but reckon well over 20 items.

As you can see from my signature debts don't always go as planned. Nevermind have a safe and secure house, new door and side panel fitted last week and hopefully will save on heating bills. Renewed determination now.

  • Just finished homemade lunch, so can add that one to the tally.

However, not managed a SFD (I don't think) as I need to buy my monthly season ticket today. I've budgetted for it, hence my confusion if it counts as an SFD or not.

The books I decluttered last week were immediatly replaced by some my Mum sent over, so my decluttering is back to square 1.

Also, forgot to do my mystery shop yesterday so I need to reschedule that asap.

Today is going really well - I have spent all day catching up with paper work which sound dreadful, but it's good to get it done to be honest. I did have a good walk with the dog earlier so I have had some fresh air.

I am not going to spend anything today. Just about to put the oven on to make biscuits and cakes for the week - kids will come home from school and scoff the lot I expect!!

I've sorted out some stuff to sell on Facebook, so will do that tonight.
The weather is dire, cold, wet, windy. I'm going to make a fire and carry on pottering!

    Food 65.31/500

    Trying to keep in budget.
