Update on Flylady meet tomorrow in Birmingham

We have clouds but no rain and even some blue sky here in the West Midlands - seems like the storm has passed us by. However, I have just had a phonecall from Bonnie saying that things in the south-east region are much worse and it might be sensible for her and others travelling via London to avoid the travel chaos tomorrow :(

I am only a short distance from Birmingham and need to go to the city centre at some time tomorrow anyway, so I am still happy to meet up for coffee and/or lunch with any flyladies who would like to join me there. Please PM me by midnight tonight to say if you're definitely coming and if possible send me your mobile number, and I'll PM you back or text you (maybe not until early in the morning!) with details of where and when.

If I don't get any replies by midnight, this Flymeet will be cancelled :( - but we'll arrange another one in 2014 and hope for better weather then ;)

Frog dealt with - plumber coming to look at toilet cistern tomorrow because it keeps filling up. Fortunately I'm on a service plan.

Thank you for the comments and suggestions. OH has spoken to them (yet again) and they've closed the file (yet again). The only thing that frightens me is the dentist, the idea of a debt collector turning up on the doorstep isn't concerning, it's just irritating. To be honest, I think one of the reasons $cottish Power are so expensive is that their administration is so woefully, pitifully, hopelessly, utterly chaotic, and it costs money to staff a department that has to keep redoing work.

Regarding debt collectors, when I bought this house 20 years ago the previous owner had left a trail of debts behind her. When the bailiff eventually turned up as I knew he would, I invited him in for a cup of tea and showed him the documentation. He was lovely, and apart from Lloyd$ Bank, I've never had any problems since. Ironically, I banked at the same branch of the bank (I don't any more) that kept sending letters, so I eventually dealt with Them in my own way as well.

Vacuuming is happening from the top to the bottom of the house today. I keep one upstairs now which saves a lot of lugging, so I don't mind doing it so much any more.
    Better is good enough.

Hi flyladies. I'm back in this week after a few months of chaos due to getting married, 2 week honeymoon, house-hunting, packing, moving house, and unpacking! After 1 month in our new house I have decided it is time to come back to this thread because I need more organisation and motivation.

Thanks for the thread Natty. I actually hoovered round the whole house yesterday but could do with doing the dusting. I also have laundry jobs to catch up on, with ironing on the list for tonight after work.

Having a lunch break. Been busy tidying up downstairs but I think I am now as tidy as I can be without tackling the paperwork basket or the ironing. :)

    Todays ambitious plans are:

    Prepare veg for cooking.
    [STRIKE] Clean mould up[/STRIKE]
    Wash up
    [STRIKE]Make beds[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Tidy bedrooms up / put clean washing away[/STRIKE]
Put DD's old bed outside (going to put the mattress in a couple of wheelie bin liners to try and keep it drier for when it gets moved.) - waiting until the rain & wind stops. Heavy showers here so I may leave this until later in the week.
    Vacuum bedrooms/bathroom/stairs
[STRIKE] Quick dust of bedrooms (DD apparently did them last week so they shouldn't be too bad)[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE] Wash sofa throws/cushion covers[/STRIKE]
    Dust livingroom
    Vacuum / Steam mop livingroom
    Clear ironing pile
Clean kitchen counters - In progress. Got to get the washing up done first
    Vacuum & wash kitchen floor

    Then ideally:
    Finish photocopying
    Shredding
    Sort newsletter for work
    Sort through work paperwork

Off to make my soup & think I might do a quick batch of bulky washing up while I wait for the kettle to boil.;) I will do ironing this afternoon. :o

  • *slinks back in looking sheepish*

Hi ladies, I'm in again this week after a little absence due to generally feeling sorry for myself. I did manage to get 90% of the 'room of doom' sorted during my AWOL, but the rest of the house is looking a little neglected... and we are about to have lots of relatives / friends descending on us during the coming weeks for 'one last meal / night out / chat before baby'

I also need to get back on top of the washing, as sorting the room of doom has produced a lot of neglected clothes and fabrics which all need to be washed, sorted, slung, charity shopped and/or put away. I've also decided that anything I don't manage to get carbooted or on eBay in the next 3 weeks is simply going to be charity shopped as at this stage the pittance we would get for it is worth less than my sanity :rotfl:

Work have been beyond useless with sorting out my sick pay and maternity leave, so at 32 weeks I still have no confirmation of what I'll be receiving and when, although they have sent me forms for claiming incapactity benefit (which doesn't appear to be payable to pregnant women) and told me I won't be getting sick pay from this week on... given that I think I should be receiving holiday pay and then maternity leave it's all very confusing and no-one seems to be able to clarify.

All of this has stressed me out about November's budget, so I'm going back to meal planning and trying to cut down costs with a vengeance.

Monday Mayhem ~ Living Room, Hall and Stairs
    Only got 15 minutes....
    Vacuum floors and sofas
    30 minutes to spare...
    Dusting, even if around everything
Remove clutter making sure stairs especially are safe
Clean TV, other electricals and cabinets
Water any thirsty plants, wipe their poor neglected leaves!!
    Got an hour...
Wipe light switches, sockets (make sure they are not switched on!!) and banister
Clean any other glass like mirrors, pictures etc
Tidy shoes, coats and bags .. wash any that need washing in preparation for cold weather!! See if there are any that don't fit, past their best or just plain uncomfy which could leave the house!
Put up linings or winter curtains to keep out those draughts.
    Extra Mission:

Pick one or more of the following tasks –
    • Paperwork clearance.. spend 15 minutes minimum sorting through those piles of paper.
    • Vacuum under furniture you can manage to move without hurting yourself
    • Clean a window or two.
    • Binbag dance.. Get a binbag.. fill it and bin it!!!
    • Ring someone you love, just to tell them you love them!!
    Deep Clean Challenge
Clean light fittings, skirtings even the ones behind furniture. Clean fire-surrounds. Wipe sofa's down. Clear as may hotspots as you can.. see if you can get it all into one pile instead of 15!!!

My very own challenges and tasks
    - At least one load of washing / drying / ironing sorted and put away each day
    - Speak to Sky about further reducing package
    - Midwife / physio / nurse / scan appointments - arrange transport
    - Finish cleaning the nursery
    - Arrange for spare bed to be collected
    - Keep an eye on prices for new cooker
    - Chase work regarding maternity leave entitlements
    - Meal plan for the coming week
    - Keep an eye out for new (to us) sofa
    - At least 10 items out of the door each day
    - Repair bathroom shelf
    - Measure up for nursery furniture
    - Block up the hole that the mice have been getting through and have a word with next door about their garden
    - Wash curtains in the lounge
    - Move around the lounge furniture to a more sensible position and work out where Christmas decorations are going to be kept
    - Replace bulb in the lounge (horrendously dim at the moment)
    - Start migrating baby things to the nursery, washing and putting away as I go
    - Reseal the bath
    - Chase DH to arrange appointment for tooth extraction
    - Choose some new glasses for myself and DH, MIL has kindly offered to pay for the frames so very MSE!
    - Ask DH to paint the ceiling in the bathroom as it's mildewy

That list is looking pretty long and I'm sure there's more to be added :rotfl: This is what happens when I don't keep up with the thread, obviously. I hope everyone else is having a good start to the week despite the horrible weather, and that anyone planning to go to the Birmingham meet-up has a safe journey and a good time with the other flyladies.

    WB Deus.

Honey.. I hated SP.. (renamed Sh-poopish Power!).. they were extortionate compared to everyone else, their customer service was very poor and in the space of the 7 weeks I was with them I had 5 bills.. no reminders, all bills, they were beyond awful!!

Opticians done.. 2 meltdowns and one nice easy one.. :D .. next time OH is staying home.. Squeak is becoming a right horrid little toad and I am not prepared to tolerate such unruly behaviour!
Girls room and back landing vacuumed.. by the 2 girls.
    DD2 vacuumed the front room.

Waiting for the boilerman to come do the service.. I need to just check the clock on it actually..

I need to find my Tesco list too.

Sorry if I sounded facetious after the suggestions and advice, and also to you Bonnie. $P's fax number is an 0845 one, so they're obviously intending to profit from their incompetence.

The way I find things I've dropped is to get down on my hands and knees and look along the floor - if that helps. It doesn't, of course, if the thing has bounced upwards and landed on something. *more finding vibes*

    The freephone number 0800 400 200 for $P is shown on saynoto0970.com, also 0141 568 6806.
  • Hi

Thanks Natty and Dusty for your respective lists and please count me in for most of this week (don't know about Tuesday yet).

Can't remember who mentioned it in last week's thread (think it might have been Skinty) but thanks to whomever mentioned about dot-to-dotting in different rooms to music - before leaving home this morning managed to get sitting room and bedroom looking rather different! Am heading home now to continue the good work!

Hope to post later in the week.

    Rebecca
