Since your laptop doesn't have Downgrade rights, do you buy a Windows 7 Professional disc replete with a COA sticker?
  • I don't know what you mean. Sorry :(

Where did this mystery man who can't help you anymore get windows7 from, and has it been paid for.

Have you created an alter ego for this query?

  • Oh heck, nothing untoward I can assure you. He's not a mystery just a lad who fixes computers. I paid for Windows 7. My last laptop had tea spilt on it, and the house insurance gave me this replacement but only had Windows 8 machines and I was told that not really any good for a laptop.. I made another account because I couldn't remember my username and password. I just needed some help with Security.

  • I've System Restored to 23rd Oct which was the day the machine was set up. It was running stupidly slow and 'sticking'..

Current state: sounds like its constantly working, still sticking on scrolling a bit...
Task Manager CPU top 3 (changing all time ).. :-
    System Idle 95+
    AvastSvc.exe 03
    dwm.exe 07

I know this sounds stupid, but Candy Crush on facebook (i know, I know...) is playing like a game from the 80's.. poor colour, slow speed to drop... It was good graphics on my last machine???

How much did you pay for the Windows 7 Professional licence and COA sticker?

Perhaps you should think about restoring Windows 8 and using Classic Shell or similar.
At least then you will have proper Driver support.

I'd ask the 'lad' to install Windows 7 again, but without all the cr*pware and make sure it's got the drivers for the Intel HD Graphics 4000 used on the Toshiba. Windows Security Essentials and Windows Firewall is perfectly sufficient protection unless you make a habit of visiting pr0n sites.
