Difficult buyer. Refund?

I sold a dress on ebay for £4.99 and the postage was set by ebay at £5.65 and I didn't change it. Buyer messaged me to say price was expensive and she wanted the dress but wouldn't pay that. I apologised and explained it was what ebay had set and I had posted a smaller dress in a smaller packet the previous week which had cost me £3. She sent another message saying she wasn't convinced it was a fair price. I asked her what price she thought was fair - no reply.

She bidded and got the dress (only bidder).

Last night I got a really long rude message going on about the postage again and she seemed to know it only cost me £3.00 (I obviously didn't know how much it cost until I went to post office and I had to pay for packaging and petrol to get there so I don't think I have robbed her!). She is now also saying that the dress is size 12 not 10 as I listed it. That has been a genuine error that I know I am at fault with. I was sure that I checked and listed every item carefully but clearly not :(

I apologised and told her to return the dress and I would give a full refund. But she has continued to be rude and say she is reporting me to ebay (not sure what that entails). Then she has said that she cannot return the dress until after her holidays on Saturday and I don't know how long that will be.

Can I refuse this? She could wear the dress and I wouldn't know. I also have 'no returns' on my items.

I can't work my way round ebay to get answers on what is appropriate/correct way to deal with things. Help!

    As someone who regularly sells used and new clothes on Ebay let me tell you it is a nightmare and I am seriously considering changing my business plan.

    The best thing to do would accept the dress as a return, refund her in full, block her and then forget all about it. If she is going to leave nasty feedback then she is going to whatever happens. Just calmly and politely respond to it. If she reported to Ebay then all they would tell you to do is to offer a refund for return of the item.

    It may well be that it has the UK size 12 and the USA size 10 on it. Personally I think the difference between postage cost and what you charge is your choice. If people don't like it then they shouldn't bid. £5.65 is a bit high though but if that is what you are charging then she should have factored that in to the price of the item and only bid if she was happy to pay that.

    But really some people live in another world to the rest of us and shouldn't really be using Ebay. The problem is that you don't normally find out about them and able to block them until it is too late.
  • It is very possible the dress is an actual 12 but I listed it wrong. All the dresses I have listed are either a 10 or 12 and so I must have made an error.

    She already gave me positive feedback even though she mentioned the postage was expensive. She said she will report me to ebay and retract her feedback and re-post as a negative because it has all been a bad transaction.

    If she goes away for 2 weeks, am I expected to just wait until then?

    People like this are nothing but trouble - any buyers who message me quibbling prices, postage or asking for discounts go straight on my BBL, as these are the buyers that go on to cause problems after purchase.

    Buyers can't retract positive feedback, so she can't leave negative feedback. She may have left low DSRs on postage.

    Buyers who go on about "reporting you to ebay" are all mouth and no trousers, and trying to get something for nothing.

    The feedback info is good to know although it has prevented me wanting to sell anything else. Would rather give my good dresses to charity than put up with this nonsense :(
  • I do think the postage was too high, i'm not sure what set by ebay means I've seen them say the max you can put? But for future reference if someone contacts you moaning about the price of the item or the P&P before bidding put them on the block list!

    As an aside, ebay dont "set" the postage - it's a suggestion, and you can change it.
    People who buy stuff regularly (and therfore have an idea of what the postage will cost) will spot the overgcharge. So it's useful to actually try and estimate it before hand, especially as you risk having your P&P stars marked down.

    That said, the bidder made a choice to pay the total price regardless.

    But if the size is wrong then you need to refund them.

    If you dont like the price dont bid. That includes pnp. Ebay idiots are ten a penny.

    A UK size 12 is an 8 in the USA. ;)
