Difficult buyer. Refund?

  • Wait until you've received the dress back, refund and block. Personally, I wouldn't enter into any more debate with the buyer. If she wants to wait until after her holiday to return the dress, then she'll also have to wait for her refund.

To be honest, the debate over P&P is tiresome. As a buyer, always take the P&P into account. If I choose to pay it, then I have no right to b1tch about it later. As a seller, I often offer free P&P but increase my starting price accordingly.

Which immediately makes be think she wants to wear the dress on holiday and then return it.

Very probably - but there is nothing the seller can do about it. As long as she returns it within the time period she'll be entitled to a refund. I'd not refund her return postage and chalk it up to experience.

I sold a dress on ebay for £4.99 and the postage was set by ebay at £5.65 and
    I didn't change it.

This bit leapt out at me from the OP- this is a recipe for disaster and you are going to attract issues unless you sort out what costs are involved in posting an item.

Ebay do not set postage, the seller does, all ebay do is set a strange criteria for what it might cost on 1 in 10,000 sales..any seller hoping to retain their selling account needs to know what is actually costs .

The discussion about whether buyers have a right to moan about postage when they have paid is a long ongoing discussion, ultimately though if the seller doesn't have a scoobie about what it is going to cost- how can a buyer expect to know?

Stars matter to a seller, whatever people on an internet forum say- and any seller that routinely overcharges on p and p is going to lose their account.

Sellers need to make a habit of watching their seller expanded dashboard, details are here:

Tell buyer they need to open a SNAD claim via ebay and return the dress fully tracked. That puts the ball in their court as they then have 10 days to prove attempted delivery back toy ou. If they can't then ebay find in your favour.

Whatever you do here buyer remains able to leave you feedback, so do everything by the book

Also, if you have made a mistake with the listing, you need to refund her return postage.

Good luck with this buyer op.

This is why I can't understand DSR on postage costs... everyone can see what they are going to pay before they bid. If they dont agree with it they don;t have to bid.

Yes have DSR on time taken to post and condition of Item when arriving etc, but not on cost, especially with eBay now charging a fee ontop of postage that buyers are not really aware of.

  • Keep it simple and just say she may return the dress when she gets back and proving it's the wrong size and unworn you'll refund her return postage.

She's left feedback, she can't change that, if she opens a case they'll tell her to return it at her expense.

Ignore any twadlle in messages and just stick to the same return for a refund.

Some people might suggest looking at Facebook in a weeks time to see if there are any pics of the buyer wearing the dress on holiday.

Just to answer a few comments:

Postage - I know ebay didn't set the postage, what I should have said was that I didn't change the option I was given. The reason being I had sent a dress a week earlier in a small package which was £3.00 postage alone (not including packet) and so I figured £5+ was going to be about right for a bigger puffier dress in a bigger packet. Weirdly it ended up being the same price. It must have been written on the packet as the buyer knew exactly what I had paid and went on about it repeatedly in her rants at me.

Pricing - She really got a bargain with the dress as it was £70 originally from Oasis a year or so ago so I figured that she was getting a good deal at £4.99 even if the postage was a little high - something I explained politely to her in her initial messages before bidding.

Feedback - She gave positive but since has told me she is retracting this and putting a negative.

Due to the unpleasant messages from her with nothing but apologies and politeness from me, I contacted ebay to see where I stood and they said she has 45 days from day of purchase to appeal and return item but apparently threatening negative feedback is not allowed and if she does then I have to report it and I will. I have 100% and really would like to keep it so I can feel confident selling in future (I am an infrequent user and only have 23 feedbacks). This has put me off continuing to use at all :(

I will offer a full refund including postage if I receive the dress quickly but I think if it is after her holiday for god knows how long then I will just refund dress as she could have worn it umpteen times.
