    So heartbreaking :(

Hope your DD is okay x
  • What a terrible and unexpected thing to happen . Such a shock but your daughter seemed to react in the right way to minimise the injuries to herself . Hope she soon recovers physically . I'm sure you'll still grieve for your pet and the very sad end for her . It was no ones fault and very sad for you all .

Sorry for your loss. Sounds like it could be something neurological, possibly a brain tumour as has been said. GSDs can be someone prone to epilepsy too, which can cause aggressive fits.
  • Thankyou all for all the kind messages, dd is still weepy but ok, shes on antibiotics and had tetnus this morning. Krlyr weird you saying epilepsy because thats what ive been thinking, there is no way on earth daisy would have attacked anyone nevermind dd as she was the closest to her,

I need to believe that she had a fit or somthing to justify what happened otherwise she was a very good actress for 5 years. I left her at the vets so she would be cremated, it was 165 in total to put her to sleep and really even if vet had advised blood tests ect there was no way i could have had her back as trust was broken and no way i would ever ever ever have rehomed her as i know she would attack again.

Would this ever put me off having another shepherd, no it wouldnt because i know they are loyal and trustworthy and would lay their
Ife down for you, just unfortunate this happened, but thankyou all again for your support, ive shown dd this thread and shes smiling as she knows total strangers care xx

I think you and your daughter have both handled this impeccably, especially when you loved your dogs so much. I hope you are all feeling better soon.

Yes we care - I felt sick when you described what happened to DD. I know how I would have felt if it had been Anni or Meggy who had turned on me, or one of my kids.
Yes it could have been a fit - my staffy used to get Grand Mal Seizures, but my vet did say that petit mal (small seizures) could be more dangerous to the owners as the dogs tended to snap their jaws but were totally unaware of doing so.
    or a stroke or tumour.

Arlys DD! - I am totally in awe of your presence of mind in not just running away - you made sure that you were safe and the dog was safe before going for help! what a brave and mature woman you are!!!

You must be so proud of her Arly!
  • I simply had to register to post here ... I am beyond sad reading this.

You had a dog and say it was utterly out of character for her to behave this way but rather than have the vet do tests to discover what may have caused her mood change and caused her to attack, you just decided to kill her.

Had the dog had a tendency for being snarly or moody I could have understood it, but if some sort of illness was behind it and there was the slightest chance at all that it may have been treatable, surely as a dog lover (and knowing nothing like this had happened before), you owed it to your pet to find out first what had caused it before taking a decision to kill your pet or try to treat whatever illness it was.

I am so sorry for your daughter but ultimately, you made your dog pay the heaviest price for something that may not have been her fault ... if illness was the cause of it then it was not the dog's fault but as you had her killed straightaway you will never know will you ... ?

If illness caused something to flip in Daisy's mind or brain, did she deserve to be tied up, left on her own and then killed ... ?

I know there are pros and cons to this woeful tale, but at the end of the day, a dog which had behaved well all her life does not act like that for no reason and surely any pet lover would have wanted to have found out what had caused it before choosing to kill them ...

What fanciful, unrealistic world do you live in?

Horrible for the dog, yes, without a doubt, but there is a high chance that this dog could have gone on to kill or seriously maim. Unrealistic to think that the dog could be kept out of harm's way while lots of tests and treatments were done, to diagnose conditions very probably untreatable.

How do you think she should have been kept whilst being diagnosed or treated, she would have been broken hearted to wonder why she wasn't getting cuddles anymore. Or would you suggest that in order to preserve her life at all costs she could be used as a guard dog somewhere, shut in a small back yard with people tormenting her over a wall.

Life sucks at times and unpleasant decisions have to be made.
