I suspect we won't hear anymore from OP.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I've seen this suggested elsewhere, that all the virus writers are sitting around, doing nothing until 2014 when they'll all strike.
Do you have any evidence to back this up, other than speculation and/or hearsay?
Florid speculation, but put it like this - a zero-day exploit has a cash value on the black market. If you attack XP today, the vuln gets patched, you get a week of use. Sell it when the OS is not maintained, and you get to use it until the end of time - its value is higher.
Viruses and vulnerabilities are real organised crime now, no longer kids doing it for fun, so market economies come into play. I'm sure XP is still getting hit from all sides, but I'd be genuinely surprised if some good vulns weren't being held until they can be of higher value. Will all this malware/virusses not be negated by up to date malware/virus software?
No. Well, maybe, a bit, but you're relying on a game of whack-a-mole. Viruses are only one way you can get into trouble, and antivirus products are nowhere near 100% cover.0 -
Moved to Ubuntu years ago, the only problem I find it that it won't do sound over HMDIDo you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0

The XP Zero Day issue is a big one.
Microsoft could be "Good Guys" and do one further set of patches - or they might just make a fortune by charging the earth for them to corporate users.
There's no way I would use XP after the official support ends. I tried Ubuntu once and got totally stuck trying to update Flash player after about 20 minutes. But despite this, I'd give it another chance over sticking with XP.0 -
Don't forget, MS has now ceased support foe XP so no more patches or fixes.
Linux is worth a try & with various 'fixes' installed, works just like W7.
Another cracking example of how a misinformed poster can cause very real issues.
Before posting something as important (and wrong) as that, checks its actually correct!0 -
Sorry I haven’t answered in a while, as I didn’t receive any notifications that someone had replied. This is an ongoing problem, how do I report this please? Are you up to SP3? or just the original one when you bought the machine?
I have sp3 on machine. I don’t want windows 8 as It’s too complicated, tried my aunts and gave up and I couldn‘t get on with it.Don't forget, MS has now ceased support foe XP so no more patches or fixes.
I heard it was April it was stopping. What’s Linux please? What browser are you using?!Hopefully the OP may come back to see what is happening, until then We are in the dark.
I click page notification, but it’s not working which is frustrating as I don't know I have any replies.More likely the OP's comp is full of crap.
If I completely clear everything in my downloads folder, would that help please?I was having similar problems recently with Chrome (I also use XP) and I fine-tuned the browser with the help of info on the web and other forums. I'm running fine now.
How did you do that please?Anyone who stays on XP after April is simply asking for trouble.
I won’t, I intend to jump when I can.I suspect we won't hear anymore from OP
You would have done had the instant email notification button been working. I checked spam folder and it hasn't even turned up in there.0 -
1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -

I would recommend moving from XP to LXLE which is an enhanced version of Ubuntu's lightweight Lubuntu operating system. LXLE is ideal for older machines and is very easy to use and comes complete with the very useful office software Libre Office (compatible with Microsoft Office)
Most machines built in the last 6 years will also cope with an installation of Windows 7.0
