If you have a birthday during the festive period what do you do or others do to make your day special?
My birthday (boxing day) has always been completely separate to Christmas.
My family have always made the effort to wrap my birthday presents in birthday paper and I made it perfectly clear to my OH that I expect a birthday 'day', even if it's just after Christmas. Harsh? some may think so, but I spoil my OH and my daughter on their birthdays and do expect the same in return.
None of my friends have ever given me a joint present, and if they ever asked if I minded then I would say yes I do. I don't give them joint presents.
It may come across as spoilt but I don't care, it's my birthday and it only happens once a year.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -

I'm in total agreement...probably one of the reasons that we also take a festive break away...then I can usually get my birthday to at least feel summery by spending it somewhere warmer than at home.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -
DS's birthday is Jan 7 th . He'll be 35 next year but his birthday is around the time kids went back to school after Christmas hols so he always felt a bit miserable . Last birthday he came with me to the vets , our cat was pts and then he dug a hole in the garden for him . He said it was just carrying on the tradition of rubbish birthdays ! Hope it'll be better next year .0

Can't comment on the joint birthday issue, but right with you on the How Many Presents in How Many Days?!
Sister one week, mum & sister week after & dad the day after that. 4 birthdays on 2 weeks pocket money is dratted tough.
Now I've joined MSE, it's all loads easier, but for decades it was hellish.0 -
No point spending too much money on something that will end up getting chucked in the recycling bin.
I would far rather receive a lovely card on my birthday than presents that are totally not suitable to my taste. My family know me well and buy me gardening vouchers as they know I get huge pleasure using these in May to buy summer bedding plants for my borders and pots. I spend the time between Christmas and May poring over catalogues deciding what I want to buy!0 -
Mine's the 22nd and I total refuse to do anything 'Christmassy' on that day - you can't really even go out for a nice meal somewhere as everywhere and everyone is in Christmas mode.
I also have to fight for some space to put my cards up separate to the Christmas ones
I am lucky that I do always get the day off as I am on school holidays from work
and for two years I didn't get any visitors as we were snowed in0 -
I just don't buy greetings cards. Utter waste of the earth's resources. Totally don't get the idea of buying for someone you live with either! Spend time together, buy a nice present, eat nice food. Stare at a piece of paper on the mantelpiece and then chuck it in the bin a few days later... er, what's the point?"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

We have quite a few November birthdays in my family, mine included. When I look for birthday cards I find it frustrating that these have been replaced by Christmas cards, does no one have birthdays from November to December? Cool gifts around this time of year though:T
I blame valentines day for the November birthdays:rotfl:0 -
My birthday is just after the New Year, I love it! I've never had a joint Christmas/birthday gift and no-one forgets either.
The only time it has been annoying is when I was around 18 and friends never had any money left to go out on my birthday, lol.0 -
my dad would always give me money for my birthday
and was very generous
when it came to cards, not so much
he was just lost when it came to walking into a card shop and finding something suitable
on my 18th birthday i thought he might make a bit of an effort
he did:o
i got ONE sheet of toilet paper
and he had written on it
As times are hard
I send no card
My money goes like vapour
but let that pass
Just wipe your ***
On this nice toilet paper:D
Love Dad x x x
I still have it
i dont have any of the cards i got
but i did keep that
so maybe it really is the thought that counts
however its expressed :rotfl:0
