I get what everyone is saying bout buying a pack of assorted cards and therfore spending less....but this year we do have a few milestone birthdays and as such it is nice to give a card that reflects that...
Being a close to christmas birthday, for me when I receive the card I wouldnt mind if it were from a multi pack..I think im just really grateful that someone sends me a card!....
I'm just getting a little miffed by the number of people who just forget...or even worse text me to say..."thanks for the chrismas present...btw...Happy birthday!"...frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Won't happen this year as it is a big birthday and we're away for it, so I will open the whole lot when I get back!
I used to hate the "joint" present thing when I was a kid. Now I am older I just hate the way I have to plan my birthday meal out months in advance so I can get a table, then when we get there there is a fixed christmas menu with crackers!!!!
I make sure that I put b'day card and date of when sending cards around Christmas time and the cards my husband gets are usually marked as well. I then put his cards with his presents as he would just open them right away.:oLost my soulmate so life is empty.

No point spending too much money on something that will end up getting chucked in the recycling bin.0

I agree with that yes...but how do you feel when no one sends you a card to acknowlege the day?
personally like I said I dont care that you dont spend much...but I would like the day recognised.
I appreciate everyone views birthdays differently...but surely its about being consistant...I have one relation who cant see the point in sending me a card possibly for the reasons youve stated...but thats certainly not the case when her special day comes round!frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

I'm a day later and hate the card thing too. I've now started not opening any cards until my actual birthday so I don't disappoint myself!
Sometimes I don't see family on my birthday due to work commitments and they give me my birthday presents on Christmas Day which I absolutely hate.0 -
My Birthday and my husband's are between Christmas and the new year - and mostly i hate it, but there is a few good bits - mainly me and mum take a day out shopping to buy my christmas present in the sales - so I get more!
And people are generally off work
Few people do the joint present - I have made my feelings known clearly about this!
I have also made it clear over the years that I like the presents to not be wrapped in Christmas paper (I would prefer a plastic bag to Christmas paper)
My paretns always meade the effort to make it about me instead of Christmas - the dinner would always be what I wanted regardless of if there was turkey and ham left or not!Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -
I am a Christmas birthday person too. I alternate between liking it and disliking it! My family always make a real effort but my friends often don't, or people can just be too busy around Christmas time to celebrate a birthday which can get a bit depressing if you want to arrange a night out or something. People often don't have the spare cash either for going out, which I totally understand.
I do like that it is a good few days of presents, cake, nice food and cards though, often treating myself to things as it's birthday and Christmas at once!

I think sex should be banned in March and April

December 15th for me, too close to Christmas for my liking. I also got the joint present thing which used to bother me as a child. The thing I hate the most these days is that it falls on peak office Christmas party week, so, either I can't get a table or all of the people I want to go out with are busy with their Christmas do. When I do go out I have to listen to rocking around the Christmas tree and Noddy Holder wailing 'it's christmaaaaaaas' at me :rotfl::A

My DD's birthday is the 31st and we make a big effort to not make it Christmassy!
We always take the tree down on the 30th and put up birthday banners, same with Xmas cards and the like. It's hard to take her out for the day without paying an arm and a leg so we normally go out for lunch and have a party food dinner at home.0 -
If you have a birthday during the festive period what do you do or others do to make your day special?
DH's birthday is around xmas/new year.
We don't do xmas. And every 5 years we have a summer birthday party for him (30, 35 etc). Seems to work.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0
