  • I'd just moved to a completely new area and started a job and knew no one except my friend and her husband who I was lodging with. She had a toddler already and was pregnant at the time so not really able to go out socialising with me. I got friendly with a girl at work and she said to come on a night out and introduced me to her circle of friends. I would take myself to the local pub and chat to people in there - I'd worked in pubs so didn't bother me too much to go in alone. I think you do have to push yourself to do stuff sometimes and s*d what you think other people might think of you (they probably aren't anyway!)

I got invited to a 21st birthday party and my work friend introduced me to this skinny, blond guy, we started chatting and as I was new to the area, he offered to take me out and show me around. I can't say it was love at first sight, although I did like his hair and dress sense but I thought he could be another person to add to my social circle.

We went out the next night and had such a good time, that was it - 4 weeks later I had found a place of my own to live and he came round that weekend and never left.... that was 26 years ago!
    Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
    And now the final frame
    Love is a losing game

    Work for me too :-)
  • I met my partner 30 years ago and we went out for 8 years. We then went our separate ways for 20 years and met up again in April 2012 and realised we still loved each other. His marriage had ended 2 years previously and I was in an unhappy marriage.

We are taking things slowly and getting to know one another again,I just know that he is the one!!

My work colleague was single and her mum suggested she contact somebody from the personals in a national Sunday newspaper. This got me thinking and in the end I advertised. It took 3 goes before my now husband replied. My work colleague ended up meeting her husband in a pub she never ususally went into.

I'm not a great believer in the 'the right person will come along'. The people who say that have usually met someone. I was 36 and been waiting way too long to find my Mr Right, he wasn't going to find me without some help, so I took destiny into my own hands.

In the pub, through mutual friends. I thought he'd insulted me and had a go at him in a taxi which a big group of us were getting home. I'd misheard what he'd said, he came back to mine to 'explain' :o:D and the rest is history.

he was friends with an ex I'd stayed friends with. introduced in the pub, I thought he was gay so didn't really give him a second glance. then I did when I realised he was straight and incredibly cute ;)

back then I just wanted a fling but quickly fell head first in love with him.
