December 2013 Grocery Challenge

I am going to declare my December figure as been paid - couldn't have been much closer £299.34/£300 but an achievement none the less. Am really hoping that I have turned the corner and on my way to taking control of the food budget.I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!0

I've read on the OS board somewhere that you can freeze potatoes raw by cutting into chips or wedges, toss in oil and freeze in ziplock bags. Alternatively you can boil them and then mash before freezing.
I haven't actually done either but certainly worth a try rather than throwing away.

I always just make a batch of mash and freezer it in portions. It tastes no different when you reheat it.
Don't put them in the bin:eek:£36/£240

You could roast them and then freeze them. When you want to eat them just chuck them into a roasting tin and cook from frozen for about 30 mins. I often make up a whole bag of roast pots when we have a roast dinner and freeze half of them ready for next time!May spend - £291.40/£320.00

Sorry you still in pain with your back. Have you thought about seeing a chiropractor. I damaged my back a few years ago and he sorted it. At least they tell you if they can help or not before treating you !! Good Luck
I'm off to the SMs tomorrow hoping to get topped-up with necessaries and drink to carry us over Chrissy (except fresh veggies and salad). Do you think it will be quietest Sunday evening or Monday evening to get fresh stuff and milk? I hate it when it's busy
Hope you all have a great day tomorrow
