  • Any ideas what to do with a whole cucumber?

What about doing a curry and chopping the cucumber up into raita?

Any ideas what to do with a whole
    cucumber?

    Raita is good idea.

Also, how about lamb meatballs or falafel served in warm pitta and a shredded cucumber salad (add chopped mint)

    Or pickle it?

Or classic cucmber sandwiches (or with tuna)

Or a take on a waldorf salad, with pears walnuts and a sprinkle of soft blue cheese/goats would also work

HM burgers with cucumber and tomato relish?

How about using as crudite's (a selection of raw sliced veg so they look like a pen - usually carrot and celery) with some dips as a healthy snack. Dip could just be very simple like cream cheese mixed with sweet chilli sauce/mixed with chopped spring onions and parsley/or a hot dip such as baked camembert?

These are quite difficult as I don't eat either Mushroom or Cucumber!

  • Thanks for the suggestions, Might go with pickling as only me and LO who like it. Now just need a jar....hmm wonder whats nearly done in my cupboard.

Not a fan of raita or mint so tuna and cucumber sandwiches and crudities for me n LO might be good for this afternoons snack....

£4.06 spent this morning on eight pork sausage and two lovely thick gammon steaks from the butcher. Another £0.60 spent on three bananas  Didn't realise that the bl**dy Co-op charges per banana. :rotfl:

Wow, Moomin that is a good price at a local butcher - I can pay up to £2.50 - 2.80 for 6 pork sausage though they are award winning and absolutely delicious - and gammon steaks too - well I daren't go there!

Yes it is annoying that lots of the smaller express type s/markets charge per piece of fruit - presumably for people buying their lunch. When I was working our catering used to charge about 35p per banana!!!!

Trying to pluck up courage to ask DH to go shopping tonight as hoping it may be less busy than a Friday which is also payday Friday for many. Our cupboards are totally empty so need to go soon! Perhaps I should tempt him by suggestion of Mn S meal deal - not had one for ages - wonder if rubber chicken is on?

Just done my first main shop for December (have already done a small shop on Tuesday). Spent £10.98 in Mr Ms; £ 30.79 in Mr Ts and £2.67 in Ald! so a grand total of £44.37. So not too bad as that also included a couple of pork shoulder joints which were on special offer in Mr Ts at £6 for 2 joints.

    Will update signature shortly.

I am making a list for our local food bank for the cheapest Christmas meat and have the £4.00 beef from asda and smartprice gammon at 3.78, have just seen Pork leg at 2.98 killo on Tescos site. This is cheaper than asda at 4.00 but cant decide if this is boneless.

Has anyone bought this and can advise.

Can't help on the pork leg but I bought pork shoulder joints and got 2 joints for £6 - think they are £4 each individually. I think the pork legs are usually really big joints as when I've bought pork leg in the past they've been big enough to cut into at least 3 joints for me and DH.

Thank you yes they are big joints, the smallest being 2.1/2 killos
but at the price that's OK for what we are trying to do for families.
Just need to know if its boneless, it looks it from picture on site but no description. May I ask what weight the 2 for £6 were.
