Unsure what to do, I go to my DDs for Christmas dinner and always take the meat. I thought I would get one of these for a change but perhaps Christmas dinner isn't the time to be experimenting.

Think I might get one but also get a turkey crown as well, that way if its not nice we wont have it for dinner but I could use it up later in January.

  • I've just started to dabble in couponing and it is surprisingly easy to get your mitts on them. It started when I bought some Nestle cereal that I thought was awful so I emailed them to complain and they sent me 6 x £1 off any nestle cereal coupons. You can generally find coupons/free samples at road shows, on company FB pages or in supermarket magazines. I also use the shopitize app as you can get cash back on certain products you buy. In some instances I have got a product for free or even made money on it.:D

I have never done well with coupons I remember printing off stuff from savvy and getting them refused cos they were home printed. I will use the coupon in the Tesco mag but that's it

  • Thinking of ordering a turkey from the butcher this year for Christmas. As it's just me and the DH I usually only get a medium chicken, but this year I am aiming to use LO for meals for 6 days after, need a big bird for that. I think a 10-12lbs bird should do it? But it still needs to be able to fit in the oven.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I get a turkey crown as there is no waste and it is so much easier to prepare. If there is lots over you could slice up some of the breast meat and freeze it. They are about 9.99 in Lidl at the mo.

  • Hi everyone - sounds like you're all doing well.

Small spend yesterday of £1.60 on value laundry liquid and around 34p on value washing up liquid.

To everyone moaning about being short - I feel your pain as I am a mere 5' when drawn up to my full height :rotfl: my Oh is 6'4" so I get him to reach tall things for me...

Bluemoo - how exciting, where is your honeymoon?? We've just spent all evening looking up hotels for ours (we're going to Japan for 2 weeks!) but it's so overwhelming all the choice. Though we'll probably only book the first two nights before we go, then play it by ear as we'll be moving about :)

I would ask your butcher - they are usually a fount of knowledge. I've ordered a free range boned breast from my butcher for this year. At least you know you can use all of it

Another NSD today but I know I have to shop tomorrow

Hope you all have a good day

  • Hi folks. It is OHs pay day on Monday so we will start our new month then. Quite scary that its December already!! With not feeling so well I have delegated organising food for the next few weeks to OH.

This weekend we will be eating out of the freezer and using up bits and bobs from the fridge and cupboards so no spend planned until pay day. Tonight we are haivng venison pin-wheels (bought from butcher and frozen a few weeks ago) with HM wedges and stir fried cabbage.

Edited - oops forgot - there will be a spend after all - £10 in Lidl to buy the on offer mince at £2.50 per 500g tray.
  • Small spend for last week of November - just bits needed - giving £241.46 out of £250. May need a bottle of milk and loaf of bread later in the week.

What do you all do re unexpected medicine purchases, please? - OH has a cold sore developing and Zo**rax is about £7 - will try to get something similar from B**ts but do you take out of HK or another pot?

These are the sorts of things that mess up my budget. Have checked and spent £ 27 out of the above on Christmas Cards, postage and an unexpected but lovely tea with our neighbours!!! Will feel very pleased if I do manage to come in under £250 this my first month though.:j

I take it out of the normal Grocery pot, but try and stock up on this kind of stuff when on offer. Bought Blistex when last on offer, and have stocked up on Soothers recently too. Anything with Acyclovir (sp?) in should shift the cold sore. I am just getting rid of one myself :(

Going to Mauritius - so so so excited! But feel _pale_ about the cost! It will be our first ever holiday together though so really wanted to do something special

    just the two of us

If I get it in the supermarket it comes out of grocery spends, if I get it in the pharmacy it comes out of general account. Sorry that's not much help. If out of grocery spends I try to use my stock cupboards - i.e pasta with sauce to balance out the spend, if it comes out of my general account (I have an £85 socialising/stuff etc. budget) I account for it accordingly.

Maybe it would be good for you though to account a monthly spend to medicine - say £3 per month, and every 6 months (£18) you could stock up on all the essentials.

Thanks to everyone who replied about the coupons - don't think that will work for me as I don't get any magazines/newspapers or the like. Glad for the help though, and will bear in mind checking out company webpages.

NSD yesterday - getting paid tomorrow so will see you guys on the Decmeber thread, but I will be hanging around here as well - you won't get rid of me that easily - :rotfl:
