Thanks to this thread I was able to make 13 meals from one pack of mince, and they are "greedy meals" too as we like big portions!
3 x Bolognese
2 x cottage pie
4 x lasagne
4 x chilli con carne
I am very pleased with that and had a NSD today too :-)January grocery challenge £0/£300

A very small spend today - which was supposed to be a NSD!!
49p in HB*rgains on pkt of biscuits and 24p in Sainsbobs for 6 YS almond slices marked down to 24p - just could not leave them and had 26p left in my purse.:) Seems they reduce things early on a Sunday as it was only 3:15 when we went past after our walk.
It is really working putting my HK in the bank and taking out only the cash I have left for the one week. No more spends until Wed or Thursday but the cupboards are full and meals planned.:j
Will update sig later.July 16 £95/£200

More spends today, not doing well this month although did do a fair amount of batch cooking today.
£22.81 spends in L*dl, I'm definitely becoming a convert, just wish I could get there on Saturdays to get the weekend deals (worked yesterday and deals gone today!), wouldn't really trust DH to get what I wanted in there!! Spend would have been less but I had to buy ketchup, brown sauce and instant coffee. Aldo got some YS sausages, 66p for 12, will be good for a few meals!
Used a packet of mince to make 6 portions of cottage pie and 3 portions of chilli, loads of veg but haven't done as well as others on here - must try harder next time!! Had c pie for dinner and now 4 portions in freezer. Also made leek and potato soup, 6 portions, 2 for DH for the next 2 days (I'm off til Wednesday, yay!) and 4 for the freezer. Made a loaf of bread so he can take some with the soup for his lunch.
Am going to try and resist the food shops on my days off, I still have 2.5 weeks left of the challenge, but freezer and cupboards are ridiculously full!!MFW 2016 #32 £1574.66/£1500:j:j0 -
Lots of shopping today as DH wasn't working and came to help
Actually he is getting better and is starting to see the reality of being a bit more frugal.
Mr T = £9.60 inc 4 portions of salmon for £5.00
£ Strech = £10.49 inc 3x4 tins tuna in brine at £3 each
Mr A = £9.30 mainly fruit/veg - Bramleys at 4 for 99p
P*land = £2.00
Li*l = £0.79 milk
Home Bags = £8.53 inc 2xcoffee and 12 F/R eggs
Soooo grand total of £40.71
Dinner today Black pud from freezer, bubble and eeck from LO mash and cabbage, beans, grilled toms and poached egg. Very yummy.:D Freezer slowly reducing :j
BIG news of the month - we have a new (to us) car :T
Bought it at the auctions on Friday so fingers xd it is all okay. It is a Mazda 3 diesel 2004 as DH has to have reliable car to get to work - often 4.00-5.00 in the morning up here in the frozen north and not garaged. He seems happy. Paid out of savings so will have to put back when I have finished paying for course.
Hope you all have a good week

Well start of week 2 for me, hoping that I wont need to purchase anything major this week as got more than enough in. I work at weekends and Hubby during week so made chicken briyiani (last night after an 11 hour shift) so 1 for hubby today and 2 in freezer, planning other lunches too.
Meal plan
Monday: HM Sausage and stuffing plait with chips and sweetcorn.
Tuesday: HM Shepards pie and veggies
Wednesday: HM Spaghetti Bolognese and possibly some garlic bread
Thursday: HM Minced beef and onion pie with mash and veggies
Friday: Creamy mushroom chicken and rice
Saturday: As*a counter pizza
Sunday: HM burgers, chips and beans or coleslaw.
Hoping to have at least 4 NSD's this week.0 -
This is what we will be having this week.
Monday- HM Pizza with HM garlic dough balls
Tuesday- Kedgeree
Wednesday- Sweet chilli lime chicken pasta
Thursday-Pork loin stir fry
Friday- HM cheese and onion quiche with chips and beans
Saturday- HM spicy lentil burgers with HM garlic bread
Sunday- HM curry using what ever is left that needs using with HM egg fried rice and prawn crackers.
I shouldn't need to buy anything except potatoes and a bag of stirfry. I've been buying MRMs 50p a bag stirfry and it is really good and does the four of us. For the potatoes I will go back to the local fruit and veg shop. I only want a few to last until the lidl offer on Saturday when I will stock up on them.
So I should have a minimal spend week.
Lunches will be chicken sweetcorn soup and left over gammon and yellow split pea made in to soup. Breakfasts will be porridge or HM yoghurt with dried fruits.
For snacks I will make cheese biscuits and a batch of flapjacks. There is also a tonne of dried fruit to snack on.
Good luck this week everyone£36/£240

£1.66 spent this morning on the ingredients for minestrone soup which will do my lunches for the whole week.
I don't particularly want to use all the celery I've bought for the soup, but can't stand the stuff raw. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I could use it?0
