My worst was mixing beet roots with plums and serving a 'fruit' crumble. Dd2s face was a picture as she tried to think of a tactful way to describe what she was eating :rotfl:

  • Using up some HM turkey meatballs in a pasta bake today.

Dessert will be a HM orange upside-down cake, served with a generous dollop of HM yoghurt.

Everything needed for today's meal is lurking in the fridge, freezer or cupboard :)

this month I am definitely eating out of stocks and stores as I can't get anymore stuff in the freezer and the tinned stuff is now accumulating on the side as my cupboards are crammed full.
I'm buying as little as possible until the stores get down to a reasonable level.
I love the idea of using up the cherries and making boozy chocolates .

At the moment I have a parmesan mountain as someone gave me a big chunk before Christmas.

I also have quite a bit of cheese in the freezer. I sorted out a big bag those little marinades butters that Sainsbobs give you when you buy meat that I had chucked into the freezer and have been using them to flavour mashed potato's .I now have various scoops of mashed potato flavoured with chilli , lemon pepper, garlic and herb flavour. All frozen for use when I just need a scoop or two of mash for dinner.

Here's a quick question, I don't think I've ever posted on this thread but I'm an avid reader of it!

I've got a bunch of veggies that are a little passed their best, parsnips, swede and potatoes. I was thinking of chucking them into a soup with carrot and sweet potato; but then got thinking does anyone have any ideas that aren't soup for those "forgotten" veggies?

  • I've been reading this and threads like it for some time now and have been inspired to sort out the cupboards and try and buy as little as possible food wise this month. New year, new start and all that.

Last night i sorted out the pantry and found tins and jars dated as far back as 04/2007!!! I've moved house twice since then. Cant believe i've trailed it all with me :rotfl: Anyhow, the pantry is half the pantry it used to be and all the stuff that will be out of date in the next few months is at the front.

I've also been inspired to have a go at making meals off the top of my head so tonight i'm having chicken(found in the freezer) curry made with celery soup(hate celery so dont know why i bought it?) and some of the many many jars of spices i've got. Its in the slow cooker at the moment and smells delish. Just hope it tastes as good as it smells . I've even written down what i put in, just in case i like it and want to make it again.

Thanks everyone for giving me a push in the right direction, and please please keep it going. I need the inspiration :T:T:T
  • Annie - if you have any mince, you could perhaps mash them all together for the topping of a cottage pie?
