Eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge - part two

  • Hi all,

Realise that I've got a bit of a stockpile of tinned sardines in spicy tomato sauce in the cupboard so I've started to eat my way through that (now that I've finally used up all the eggs!). So, lunch was salad with sardines (the spicy sauce makes a nice salad dressing) and dinner was an M&S green Thai curry.

Someone on a different forum mentioned corned beef and I remembered that we used to have corned beef fritters for lunch at junior school and I got all nostalgic for some. I've added corned beef to my grocery list to see if it tastes as good as I remember because if it does, that will make a cheap and cheerful meal. If not, the cat might eat it :rotfl:

Jeans are uncomfortably tight again so laying off the chocolate and cake for a while.

Found some from Ocado for £2.49, and a skinny version at that. I got a £20 off voucher from Ocado this week for having introduced a friend (she got £20 off too so is very pleased :)) so I feel I can afford to add a few non-essentials to my grocery order this month. Used the rest to stock up on cat food and potting compost. I'm just so rock n' roll :rotfl:

The Tesco value one is £1.50 a tin. Just as nice as the Princes one which is around £2-2.50 a tin usually.

You can also buy it as cooked meat in packets in Tesco too (chiller aisle with the ham etc) but dont get the value one, just the normal own brand.

Just eaten my dinner - was famished. Salmon fillet with new potatoes and veggies, yum. Although anything tastes good when I'm that hungry!

Still working my way through the tinned sardines with my lunchtime salad, but will mix it up a bit by substituting tuna now and again as I've got quite a lot of that stockpiled too. Will try some different mixes (eg adding onions & peppers; and lime juice & black pepper) but if any one has any other ideas, I'd be grateful :)

Out of freezer - not decided yet.
In to freezer - HM TITH + HM Soda Bread + HM Cheese Bread + HM Spice Cake.
Had a cook up after coming home from Church.
Made a TITH - we had some for dinner with roast potatoes/parsnip + carrots/onion + gravy.

I had some milk that needed to be used up after making the Yorkshire batter. I made JJ's Herby Cheese Bread + GCJ's Soda Bread + a Sour Milk Spice Cake. The cake was a new recipe to me - couldn't find a 9 inch tin so used a Bundt tin. The Bundt tin was a throw out by a neighbour - she had bought it and never used it - so I said - yes please. My first time of using this sort of tin - I broke the cake getting it out of the tin!
I will let you know how the cake is to eat.
I am still ploughing through the washing up.

  • MrsF ALL of those look delicious. Don't know how you find the willpower not to eat them all immediately!

Dinner tonight is a repeat of last nights salmon, potatoes and veggies to use it all up, so a bit boring but tasty.
