That appears to be what he's saying and I agree with them.0 -
I didn't say that it was derived from "horseless carriage"; I asked if it wasn't, but it's not that big a deal.So you accept you were wrong and it's not derived from "horseless carriage?"
Just think if you had googled this before your post then this unpleasant exchange could have been avoided.....
However you specifically said "No it's an abbreviation of the Latin word carrus.", whereas that is itself incorrect, and therefore believing it is by your logic a sign of lack of education too.
Of course, if you had googled it before posting, you would have known that your statement "No it's an abbreviation of the Latin word carrus." was also incorrect.
I'm now educated as to the etymology of the word "car", and who knows, maybe you are too...0 -

No it wasn't incorrect. You're basing it on the French word not the Latin word. This argument is debated (try googling it). However as the French word is derived from the Latin it's irrelevant anyway!
I like the fact you are using the word "etymology" to try and impressive other posters with your "education" :rotfl:0 -
Evs, dude; the fact that it is "debated" as you put it makes your unequivocal statement "No it's an abbreviation of the Latin word carrus." incorrect. However, I'm sure you can convince yourself in your own mind that you are right regardless, but I'm signing out now, so maybe you could go and find a lamp post to argue the point with.No it wasn't incorrect. They have not said there is not enough room for people to get past.
They have just parked on the pavement.0 -
For people who didn't Google the street in my first post.
This is a reason why people park on the pavement.
Neither side of the road has yellow lines where the cars are parked. If people wanted to follow the law and park on the road they'd be blocking the road.
And for the people who think they should park somewhere else, it's a residential area. All the streets around it are the same, in fact the one parallel to it is worse; you can only park on one side of the street.0 -

So you are quite happy to see the pavement on both sides of the road blocked off to wheelchair users?
..... and just because it would be inconvenient to motorists you think it's acceptable.
I find it unbelievable how selfish some able bodied people are :mad:0 -
Bet those houses have back lanes where residents could park their cars rather on the main road/footpath, so avoiding blocking the road.0
