    Hi,

I think I'm one of the 1st to get this "attempted" to be installed. Engineer arrived today to install but hit issues with my Central heating system, think its something specific to me so may not be the same issue for everyone, but they're coming back on Friday to attempt a 2nd install. I'll let you know how it goes.

I've created a Google + community "British Gas Hive Heating"

Not too sure if this link will work, but you should be able to find it on G+

Only launched yesterday but it's a lovely bit of kit, much better than the old remote heating controls.

It looked good on the internet However, I'm not sure if it is something landlords will be happy with.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

It does not cost £199 to install, £199 is the cost of purchase and installation. I think controllers like this are a good idea for people who get home from work at varying times and there is no one at home during the day.

Programmable thermostats, where you can set different temperatures for different times of day sound great, but do you really need it to be controlled through the internet?

I don't have a thermostat at all at the moment and would quite like an internet one, as a gadget :D but I dont really think it is necessary unless you often forget to come home and want to turn the heating off remotely!

You can get programmable ones that are wired to the heating system for less than a hundred quid, not sure on installation costs though. Wireless ones seem to be a bit more.

I was quoted £250 for a basic wireless thermostat and install by a recommended private company. In the end my letting agent did it for me, totalling £150. I guess they have "connections". It's definitely basic though, literally just a wheel to adjust temperature, no online interface, timer or programming. Combined with the boiler's timer and TRVs it should be fine though.

£199 sounds like a good deal for that kind of thermostat to be honest.

For those of your who are interested, I've just created a forum for British Gas Hive specific discussions, hints, tips and technical support. I'm due for a re-attempt at installation tommorrow, so will put more information up once I'm "live".

BG have more things in the pipeline regarding 'controlling your energy' when not in the house, It all looks pretty snazzy.

The Hive may even be replaced with something that offers a lot more functionality.

I know they are planning on developing the hive continuously but would be surprised if they were launching something while planning on replacing it.
