Hi all; I shall be fluttering as much as a large hairy Lab will allow. As Labs do, she's moulting quite a bit, so Mr Dys0n is doing overtime. (Must get him out again shortly).

Bossy I hope all is well with you.:o

Decogecko hoping your friend's funeral goes as well as possible. (((HUGS))) I know how awful it is to say Farewell to a friend.

Wendywitch so sorry to hear about little Marmite. Sleep well, little pusscat.

Flying Knitters – a question: I've had some wool for 6 years, finally started knitting it up into a waistcoat a few weeks ago - I've done 10 rows of rib at the bottom and 18 rows of a 2-row pattern on the back, thus far. It looks like a reasonably easy pattern, just a bit of shaping to do at the front ( the bottom of the front sections are triangular iyswim) and obviously for the armholes. Bearing in mind my wrists are not good, and I don't have a lot of time for crafts because the Flying takes me longer to do that if I was in good health, is it realistic to set myself a target of getting it done by Yule (21st December) or am I just setting myself up for bitter disappointment? I used to do a lot of knitting, but the last time I made anything was about 8 years ago. The waistcoat has a back, 2 sides, and armhole and front bands to make, one band to have 4 buttonholes. One of the major obstacles to getting on with it is that it's for me; if it was for Mr LW (as the last item I made, 8 years ago was), I'd crack on with it; so I wondered if setting myself a target date would help. What d'ya'll think?:D

LW I enjoy knitting, but can only manage little bits at any one time (I find crochetting much easier). Can't remember how long ago it was, but the last time I knitted a garment, I set myself daily or weekly targets (can't remember which) as opposed to longer ones and didn't do too badly that way - don't know if that might help you if you have to stop for any reason ....

LW what % of the knitting have you done? How long did it take? Assuming you progress at the same rate then do the calculation and see how many hours it should take and divide that by the number of days you will be able to knit on until Yule - now tell us if that is doable - I'm writing the Maths report next!

    Hello

Please may I come back again?! I just can't stay on top of everything and need to get some routines and structure back into this pit. It's driving us all crackers.

I'm firefighting at the moment so I probably will not follow the lists this week while I'm getting sorted but I need something that makes me feel like I am achieving and this forum always did.

I work while my children are at school so I need to make better use of my mornings before school and the period between school finishing and tea time. I often find myself distracted doing other things and then I can't be bothered once the boys are in bed. It needs to change :o

    Today I have:
    • 1 x WM
    • 1 x TD
    • Folded and out away enough underwear to get everyone through the week :o
    • Ironed school t-shirts and work shirts
    • Put school stuff away
By the end of today I will:
    • Empty the DW
    • Clear kitchen counters
    • Refill DW
    • Clear dining room table
    • Clear top of sideboard
    • Cook tea
    • Clear away from tea
    • Read with boys
    • Spend 15 minutes tidying utility so I can actually get in there
I'm off now to do a HHC to see what I can knock off the list. It always spurs me on and makes me realize thinks don't take as long as you think they will.

    Sorry for rambling!

I started about 2 months ago, and am, I guess, a bit less than a quarter of the way up the back. Trouble is, I tend to do this sort of thing in fits and starts, so I might be able to do a couple of hours over a weekend, then not get chance to touch it again for another month - or (to be more accurate) invariably find that there's something that will benefit Mr LW rather than me that takes precedence.

OK, let's be more accurate - I've actually had just 3 "goes" at it. The first time I cast on and did one row, and my wrists hurt so much I had to stop. About a week later, I did another 9 rows rib (ie finished the rib on the back) and 2 rows of pattern; stopped because my wrists were starting to play up. I didn't then pick it up again til yesterday, when I managed 16 rows of pattern; stopped because Mr LW wanted my attention on something else - had he not called me across to his pc I could've continued. See what I mean about fits and starts?:D That's why I thought maybe a "get it done be a certain date" target might be an idea.:o

Lamewolf, when you're actually doing it, do you enjoy it? Obviously not the wrist-hurting bit, but before that, while you're creating something out of the wool? Does it feel satisfying when you see it grow?
    Better is good enough.
