My husband and I were very aware that the children were growing up and needed us less. We therefore made a decision to concentrate on us a bit more as we both did not want to be those couples that sit in restaurants in silence not talking to each other. We both have different interests but make sure we spend time together (fortunately we both like walking and can talk quite happily about nothing for 6 or 7 miles). However we also have completely separate interests which we do not share, but we accept that. I also quite happily enjoy my own company and if I want to learn to dance I would go ahead and do it. It is finding the balance and rediscovering what bought you together as a couple in the first place (although I had two children I bought to the marriage). Do not feel guilty about wanting to do things on your own, but try and find a common interest you both enjoy. So many couples split up when the children grow up and leave home but with some work you can find some interests together. No I am no angel but do know that I want to grow old with the old man, I am too old to start over again lol!No Matter what you do there will be critics.0

All your posts offer excellent advic.e, raise important issues and have given me food for thought. Im so glad its not just me who feels the same things, i.e. post children.
Yes, the debt has been an issue in the past in that we had no money for a social life other than watching tv with a bottle of wine. Now that the kids are costing less and that the debt is under control, we have more money but we're out of the habit of spending on "luxuries" like holidays or meals out. We're so used to saying "we cant afford to do this, that or other". Clearly an open honest discussion is overdue0
