How about making cookie mix jars. Put all the ingredients for cookies in a jar type out the recipe and attached to the jar you could also include a cookie cutter.

    Something like this

Take a cheap basket, decorated it and filled it with candies :)
  • iammumtoon - the jars were Ikea, think they were a pack of 5 or 6. I say every year I will make some brownie mix jars for my brother but I never get round to doing them. Will try this year!

SilS - I was about to say I love the idea of the basket but then I realised you put candies. I thought it said candles! My Auntie would love a basket of nice candles so think I might do that. Thanks for the inspiration!! :rotfl:

delly daisy - love the water idea, have to try that on my DS

I love the makes on here, I purchased similar jars, they were in the poundshop in packs of 4

I made some tags very cost effective if you know someone in a DIY shop ;-)

I think the cookie and brownie mix jars need a bigger jar so I was planning on using an old coffee jar. My DH used to drink Douwe Egberts before I started taking over the shopping :rotfl:so we've got a few empty jars hanging around

Thanks for this, I like Douwe Egberts-but only buy it when it's on offer. :D

This was an additional present that I made for my 'tweenie' sons last year but you can make them for any age.

All you need is a computer and printer!

It is a personalised booklet that you make yourself using internet resources. I can't find the links to the one I made last year but if you google you will find them.

    Included in the book was:
A personalised crossword puzzle - with all the answers being words to do with the receipient. Hobbies they are into, TV programmes they watch, football players... (You write the clues and provide answers, the (free!) internet site makes it into a crossword).

A personalised wordsearch - again, all words to do with the receipient - maybe family members names, football players, etc. (You make a list of names, the site makes it into a wordsearch).

A join the dots picture of the recipient (yes, there is even a free site that does that!)

A pretend made-up newspaper headline and article about the family (add photos and names)

A sentence written using just a number code (like A=1, B=2, C=3 etc) that they have to use their spy sluthing skills to solve.

    and

A 'spot the difference' page - two photos of the boys , one I added funny 'christmas items' to (reindeer horns, red noses, etc). For this I used xmas themed 'stickers' with the free photo editing program PicMonkey.

Humour being the key to these. :) Silly clues, funny headline, etc. As I was writing this I just reminded my boys about it and the younger one said 'that was awesome!' Praise indeed. :o I think the personal element was what made this something more special than anything you can buy in a shop - and it was cheap too :) - just a bit of printing ink and paper :T Hope this helps someone else.
