Sounds a bit like the ghosting you can get with plasma, does it happen particularly with fast moving images? (I agree with albertross that I doubt it's anything changing connectors would fix).

I am connecting 3 things to my TV....

    Sky+ Box

    Homecinema system

    Xbox 360

    None are HDMI connectors..

I'm not using the built in freeview, I've just connected the scart from the back of the TV to the Sky box and another scart from the back of the tv to the homecinema. The xbox is via vga

The bloke in comet told me that quality went in this order: Scart = lowest, component = middle, sc30 (or whatever it was) = high and hdmi = best.

I was going to get one of those cable systems from monster (like a surge protector) that reduces all the interference. Then get a good scart for the sky box. leave the xbox is it is and get an sc30 cable for the homecinema system.

also, I appreciate that there should be a little pixilation, but he told me that it would probably be the interference and bad quality scart and that an upgrade should improve it somewhat.

    Can't say I've heard of SC30 - did he mean S-Video?

If it were me, I'd get a reasonable scart for the Sky+ box, stick with the VGA for the X-Box and (if your player can output it) component for the DVD.

Some ghosting is inevitable with plasmas, mind.

I wouldn't buy ANYTHING branded Monster from Comet as you're almost certainly paying about three times over the odds for it.

I didn't believe it but until cledor pointed that out I thought it was a genuine site, only because there are so many real sites (especially for audio/hifi) that are equally full of rubbish pseudoscience.

Ok, so even if it is ghosting or pixilation or anything like that. What can I do to improve the picture quality from what it is now to the best of its ability WITHOUT getting a hd sky box or hd dvd player

Does the problem occur from particular sources (eg Terrestrial broadcast, DVD...) or just with everything?

Satellite* and freeview have very low bitrates. On a screen that big you are going to notice the faults in the picture a lot more.

Most people don't have huge TV sets so broadcasters only worry about people viewing with a much smaller screen.

*HD channels have higher bitrates and higher resolution, if you want better pictures on the TV then you need a HD source, though on satellite there are only around 7 HD channels on cable 1 HD channel.

Take a Jpeg photo for example, use 55% compression, then zoom in a couple of times, you notice the poor quality, zoom out and it looks OK. This is similar in taking a highly compressed TV picture and blowing it up on a large screen, it doesn't look good, watch it on a 14" portable and it looks OK.
