As above, plus.
You can get good quality scarts for under £5, you need individually screened cables and a solid construction, that's about it.
Everything else is just snake oil. OFC is another one, there is so little oxygen in non-OFC cables that it makes no difference. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
The Samsung PS42Q97HDX has a built-in Freeview tuner, so I'm guessing this it what you are using to view a broadcast.
You aren't helped by a few factors:
1) Freeview is highly compressed, this isn't so noticeable on a 25" or under TV screen, the larger the screen the more noticeable it is, you will get pixelation.
2) Freeview is SD channels broadcast on Freeview between 544 x 576 and 720 x 576, so you TV which has a resolution of 1024x768 has to up-convert this.
3) For a large screen, it's doesn't really have a very good resolution, so blockiness / pixelation will be noticed.
You really need to get a HD digital box, such as Sky digital, however again you TV will have to convert the picture to it's native resolution, as HD broadcasts are either 1920 x 1080 or 1280 x 720, so it's never going to be perfectIt's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... The trouble is, people will believe it - especially the 'green' lobby !

I am connecting 3 things to my TV....
Sky+ Box
Homecinema system
Xbox 360
None are HDMI connectors..
I'm not using the built in freeview, I've just connected the scart from the back of the TV to the Sky box and another scart from the back of the tv to the homecinema. The xbox is via vga
The bloke in comet told me that quality went in this order: Scart = lowest, component = middle, sc30 (or whatever it was) = high and hdmi = best.
I was going to get one of those cable systems from monster (like a surge protector) that reduces all the interference. Then get a good scart for the sky box. leave the xbox is it is and get an sc30 cable for the homecinema system.
also, I appreciate that there should be a little pixilation, but he told me that it would probably be the interference and bad quality scart and that an upgrade should improve it somewhat.0 -
As long as you didn't buy some cheap and nasty poundland SCART lead you should be OK, are the current SCART leads you have now thin or thick, can you check to see if they are individually screened?
You should be connecting your XBox with HDMI really, if you want to put your TV to use. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... I bought 2 of these....http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5345241.htm
They were from argos and I thought they might be ok. I was told they are crap!
And also, I didn't realise you could connect the Xbox via HDMI? I got the VGA HD Cable for about £20 and thought that would do the job? am I wrong?0 -
Do you mean artifacts or pixelation? Do you get pixelation when playing a DVD, or watching TV? I doubt new leads will help.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

That's not necessarily true. I do think a lot of this is hype but making only one side of the connection gold doesn't lose an advantage over not having the gold at all. The more important issue would be the work function between the gold and metal used for conduction in the other connectors. When making devices I have used aluminium probes to test connected to different metals and it does make a difference (generally gold being much better for the devices) despite the probe connector not being made of gold."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

dunno what artifacts are tbh. It sometimes and i mean its not all the time, but evry now and again, it just seems a tiny bit blurred around the edges and takes a milisecond to catch up0
