I very much doubt you were offered a contactless card on the Barclays basic account. They usually offer only a debit or cash card, and there have been some reports on here of people even being denied the normal debit card.

I have a basic account with Barclays and when opening it they gave me an option of either a cash card, normal debit card or a contactless card so I doubt that is the issue especially if he has a normal account.
It might just be a case of it being the default option if he wasn't asked at the time of opening the account as it was done online, if he wants one it might be worth just going in and asking.

    Can you define basic account.

Is it an account with an overdraft?

Or is it an account that's a cashcard account that doesn't allow overdrafts or chequebook?

Well I must have imagine the part where the advisor actually explained to me what a contactless card was when giving me my options  He offered me a cash card or a debit card which could be done with or without the contactless feature with a £15 limit. http://www.barclays.co.uk/Helpsuppor...561764200

I specifically went in and asked for this account: http://www.barclays.co.uk/Currentaccounts/Keepitsimple/CashCardAccount/P1242557963900

I went to my designated appointment and yet again I stated this was the account I wanted and we went through the process. The Advisor said I had the option of a cash card or a debit card with or without the contactless method. I had heard of the contactless method and asked him to explain he did, said it was limited to £15 a day I said no thank you as it seems a bit dodgy to me.

I think we can agree that the advisors who work in that bank really need to do their homework before giving out wrongful info.

Its a bit like when you ask them about credit scoring and they feed customers with pure nonsense.

Eh all I can go by is what I experienced when I went down there, It was offered I stated I wanted a basic account (after finally managing to pay off my overdraft from another bank account) and these were the options he gave me.

With the account you've highlighted whether some Uneducated advisor said this comes with a Contact less card is wrong I'm afraid.

Once Barclays staff realise you're not going to earn them lots of commission or count towards targets, they'll tell you anything you want to hear and then deny it later.
