and also I have re discovered candles! Use candles when watching tv and turn off those lights!

I hope the candles are gifts, not things you are buying to save electricity! A lightbulb costs under 10p a day to run (+ replacing it when it blows)

Slow cookers are they energy efficient - cheaper than gas - safe?

Yes they are as it saves not only electricity but it saves the washing up! and why would you think they aren't safe? You can switch them on in the morning and they are fine all day, they don't boil dry or anything.

Ooh another one is cloth sanitary protection or CSP, they complement the mooncup very well.

    What I don't think we've had yet:

Weird and slightly counterintuitive, but a really nice proper branded teriyaki sauce. Mine runs £3 a bottle, but it helps me use up leftovers in stir fries, makes nice cheap salads with just rice and veg that taste good enough that I don't want to buy lunch so much. (also herbs, curry powder etc. help jazz up leftovers when reheating so it doesn't taste like the same meal 2 days in a row, I only have one freezer drawer so I can't store lots of different frozen meals)

Free entry museums/events/activities I can spend a whole day at Leeds city museum, and while I'm there I'm having fun and not spending money, makes it easier to socialise when you don't always have to say I'd love to come but I'm broke, or spend money you can't really afford

I'll try the teriyaki sauce - I use soy sauce to make own brand noodles a bit more interesting! I have them in for emergencies, but then find I don't want to eat them LOL!

Loving this thread, so many good tips, I am starting my debt free journey and started a new diary today so am looking for lots of tips and new things to try - fantastic ideas and tips!!

My things are definately dressing gown, fleece bottoms and fleece jumper to keep warm (but that is usually with heating on top but need to curb the gas usage so think will bring a blanket down to turn the heating off and keep warm) and also I have re discovered candles! Use candles when watching tv and turn off those lights!

Thanks Boho! All the best for your debt-free journey and I'll have a read of your diary!:j

Also not a fan of soy sauce noodles :P

Glue, I stock all different kinds for all different things, like sticking the front of sole back onto the shoes which are still going a year later with no other issues.

Glue is a good one - great for sticking unfranked stamps on to new envelopes/parcels!! (Whoops, is that a bad thing to do???!!) :D

They are all candles I have in the stores, I went through a stage of having them out on display then stashing them all away because of discolouring, then found them and dug them out to use. I have had a look at the website, fantastic and very interesting, I really thought it cost more to run the lights!! It would be interesting to know how much each item we use costs? Is there a website with a breakdown?
