I am another one for the internet...
... It saves me a fortune on cookbooks cause I look up recipe websites and also allows me to spot good deals coming up.
It also allows me to look on this website and to realise I can change my spending ways.
Also, I would have to say gaming systems (xbox and my nintendo ds) as they encourage us to stay indoors and be lazy. As a result I don't go out and spend money. (my other favourite past time).Mortgage: £0/£80,329.91

I'm going for my heated throw. This, together with an old and tatty pair of Uggs that I wear as slippers, has kept my fingers off the heating switch. Also, an electric soup maker which makes the most delish soup in under 30 minutes from cheap and cheerful veg. These two electrical items have not only paid for themselves in a relatively short time, but are now saving me money. I wasn't sure I could justify buying either, but so glad I did.0

The major one for us is our chest freezer, all the reduced stuff goes in it and it saved us one Christmas when we had to empty out our main freezer when the fridge part broke.Squirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0

What I don't think we've had yet:
Weird and slightly counterintuitive, but a really nice proper branded teriyaki sauce. Mine runs £3 a bottle, but it helps me use up leftovers in stir fries, makes nice cheap salads with just rice and veg that taste good enough that I don't want to buy lunch so much. (also herbs, curry powder etc. help jazz up leftovers when reheating so it doesn't taste like the same meal 2 days in a row, I only have one freezer drawer so I can't store lots of different frozen meals)
Free entry museums/events/activities I can spend a whole day at Leeds city museum, and while I'm there I'm having fun and not spending money, makes it easier to socialise when you don't always have to say I'd love to come but I'm broke, or spend money you can't really afford0 -
Loving this thread, so many good tips, I am starting my debt free journey and started a new diary today so am looking for lots of tips and new things to try - fantastic ideas and tips!!
My things are definately dressing gown, fleece bottoms and fleece jumper to keep warm (but that is usually with heating on top but need to curb the gas usage so think will bring a blanket down to turn the heating off and keep warm) and also I have re discovered candles! Use candles when watching tv and turn off those lights!
Slow cookers are they energy efficient - cheaper than gas - safe?A new year, new month, new focus and new hope - must stay on the right path for my dreams to come true![/CENTER]
It's not all about central heating and spot lights - cherish wrapping up warm and using candles! It's the small things in life!!0
