Accused of smoking in a hotel(I am a non smoker)

Not sure if this is correct section.
Quite a few issues with this, I have 2 friends that smoke, 1 was booked into a twin room with me and others mum died a few weeks ago so was very depressed and so let him come up to talk.
One of my friends was smoking a ecig which nowhere on the terms on their website or on a list behind door mentions you cannot do this, nor does it mention you cannot have guests.
Anyway we got a knock on our door first saying "oh someone is smoking who is it" we all denied it and they were quite forceful and then said straight away we are getting a £50 fine for smoking, and another for having a 3rd guest in a twin room, we explained we did not know about not having guests and was given a confusing reply that "guests are not allowed at this sort of time" (11.10pm on a Friday night!) She then said there was a strong smell of smoke and then when I asked for proof she then got agressive and demanded we instantly leave.
When I asked for proof again and said I am a non smoker she saw a lighter on the side and went over and picked it up then wiped her hand over where it was trying to find proof, she then had scraps of paper or something and claimed that was proof, I was polite but firm and mentioned that I do not smoke, I only left the room for a moment but never noticed any evidence and I did not smell anything and eventually she backed down and just said "oh we will give you a warning"
She then demanded my friend leave straight away so my friend left really upset and I walked him to his car as he is in a bad way right now but as we left I heard her speak on radio about how we had been given warning and 3rd person asked to leave.
I want to complain about this but checking rights since I know I did not smoke and my friend only had a ecig, could the sensor be faulty(they refused to tell me anything about where sensor was or could it be faulty) and how they claim they can chuck people out close to midnight and since my friend has a ecig it could be that, or he smokes roll ups so the smell may stick to him but he did that before we arrived,
What can we say to argue this? They may not have charged us but I am insulted over their guilty as they say so attitude.

What hotel chain was it?
Speak to the manager in the morning. They wont have anyone high up to deal with it at this time.
I know that last time I booked in a hotel , it was clear on the from , it was a non smoking room.0 -

We knew it was non smoking but we did not smoke, in fact I am a non smoker.
All the terms say if they think you are smoking they may charge you.
Funnily enough looking at reviews I see complaints all the time for things like guests having parties but the management do not fine or chuck them out and 1 more saying they had a night guest round and the next morning were fined despite having a double room
My anger is the automatic assumption of guilt and the fact I was given the chance to either pay a fine, or leave and not even defend myself0 -
What was the cigarette lighter doing on the table in the room? When I asked for proof again and said I am a non smoker she saw a lighter on the side and went over and picked it up then wiped her hand over where it was trying to find proof,
You also stated that " I only left the room for a moment but never noticed any evidence" , but if someone is desperate for a smoke, sometimes a moment is all they need to light up for a quick puff.0 -
Don't these things release vapour? And does this vapour have an odour? (not familiar eith ecig things)0

Very faint odour and not of cigs which are stinky. But you DONT NEED A LIGHTER so I think someone is pulling the wool over OP's eyes. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.
If you quote me, don't forget the capital 'M'

Also as other say what was the lighter for if no one was smoking.0 -
Op I can't believe a member of staff just randomly knocked on your door and accused someone if smoking. She must had a reason to do it.0

So what's the point of them ?0 -
Because they don't have all the tar and other ****One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

Isn't that why people smoke in the first place though? For the nicotine hit0
