7-day bank account switching - how has it been for you?

Decided to change banks after a couple of expensive years with Lloyds. I'm currently waiting to hear back from a mis-sold premier account refund with them.
Saw the offer for First direct so applied for the account and the 7 day switch.
There was a problem with the name on the account as my middle initial wasn't on my Lloyds card, and when I applied for the account, I mistakenly said it was. Didn't think it would be a problem but apparently they couldn't switch if it wasn't changed.
I was told to ask Lloyds to change the detail on the account.
As I moved to Scotland, all Lloyds up here have been changed to TSB's so they told me to go into an RBS to change the detail. However, they said they were unable to as their systems weren't able to yet.
I informed First direct and they said they would put the switch on hold until I managed to change it. I said that was fine as I still wanted access to my Loyds account until my dispute was sorted anyway, so I was happy.
This was over a week ago, and today I've noticed the switch has gone ahead anyway and my Lloyds account has now been closed!
Will this affect my dispute with them for a packaged account refund as my account is now closed?
To top it off, I bought a coat from Next last week on my Lloyds card, but changed my mind after getting home. I took it back to the shop yesterday and the Lady refunded the money on my Lloyds card. The problem is my Lloyds account was closed by this point (without me knowing) so I'm not sure where the £65 has gone....I have a receipt saying it was refunded. Will the money eventually be redirected to my First direct account???
thanks in advance0 -

Excellent. Opened a Clydesdale account and the switching process happened exactly as planned.
The only glitch was when my old account had closed, I made a test transfer from a third account to the closed account. The credit to my new account didn't happen. I rang Clydesdale today to ask why and after some investigation was told that the 'bounce' is set up on day 8 of the switching process, I made my test transfer on day 7.
Did another test today and the funds were in my Clydesdale account within secondsThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
My disabled sister switched from natwest to tsb on 7th November and everything has gone smoothly so far (eg direct debits, standing orders) but her fortnightly dwp esa payment which is due on a Monday but would have normally been in her natwest account by early Saturday due to the way natwest credit/debit payments due for Mondays (if she had stayed) has still not appeared in her new tsb account and I understand if her payment was sent to her old account it would automatically be forwarded to her new account. The question i'm asking is if the payment was sent by DWP directly to her brand new account does it appear before her Monday due date like Natwest used to do or on the Monday itself. Anyone else had any experience of delays to payments IN to their new accounts after their switch?
At the moment I have a feeling i'll be spending a joyful Monday phoning TSB, NatWest and DWP asking who sent what where and when.0 -
Switched two weeks ago from Barclays to a Halifax current account, only one problem which was down to me forgetting my login details!! , but it all got sorted out pretty quickly over the phone! The £100 switching incentive appeared after a couple of days.
The reason for switching was Barclays getting greedy and charging me £22 for being £15 overdrawn for one day recently , pi**ed me off no end so I voted with my feet!
So thanks MSE for the tip!0 -
Utterly hilarious.
Switched from Nationwide to First Direct, FD opened a new account with no bother but the switch was rejected, after a bit of to-ing and fro-ing it turned out Nationwide didn't have 'Surrey' included as part of my address (it's on my bank statement btw!), they amended it so FD re-submitted the transfer request.
Second request was rejected, this time I escalated within Nationwide as I had no confidence in their frontline staff to resolve the issue. It turned out that Nationwide had the first line of my address recorded twice which is why the system had rejected it, apparently because the whole system is automated there's no opporunity for a human with common sense to intervene.
So, official complaint raised and to their credit, Nationwide assigned me a customer care rep and he sorted the whole lot out, the 3rd transfer went through without any bother. Nationwide also offered £100 compensation due to the hassle I went through to get it sorted, so coupled with the FD incentive I'm £225 better off!
Not happy with the delays and the hassle, but happy with the response in getting it sorted. DDs all transferred fine and my employer confirmed the change of details etc that they received from FD. Also very impressed with FD so far, quick to answer the phone and very helpful every time I speak to them.£5000 paid off
£2500 remaining
Paying off ~£500 per month

Her indoors switched from Natwest to Lloyds because we need an account there for our mortgage. They gave her car insurer, phone provider and gym 3 different account numbers, none of which were hers, which led to 3 lots of missed payments.
Fortunately we spotted it & paid before the companies reported any missed paymentshelpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0 -
Switched from Natwest to Halifax a few months back.
Halifax claim to have it done in 7 days. In reality, it took a month! Two of my direct debits got messed up so I had to cancel them and reset them. I think it would have been easier if I had just moved things over my self.
On a positive note, Halifax gave me the £100 and a six month free £750 overdraft a week after I'd opened my account. And they've been lovely so far, so I guess I can't complain too much.0 -
Am thinking of using the 7 day switch to move from smile to nationwide, only real concern is payments in, I understand they bounce any in payments to your new account for 13 months, but just wondering how quick that is, is it instantaneous?
Reason I ask is my gut is telling me that the NHS trust won't take the word of the switching service, chances are I will gave to fill in a form and submit by a certain date to make the cut off and that's probably very close to now for Decembers pay, if the bounce happens and it turns up in the new account same day then there won't be an issue, but if it takes days to arrive that wouldn't be so easy if that makes sense
Another payment in would be child benefit, will they accept the switch or am I best calling them to arrange?0 -
