7-day bank account switching - how has it been for you?

My switch from Barclays to Halifax completed today. Can't fault the process, the new account was opened immediately and the £100 bonus was in the account within 4 days. Today was day 7 and everything is over to Halifax now. They updated me by text regarding the progress, the only issue I can whinge about is that for one thing and another they (Halifax) must have sent me a dozen or more letters!0

I started the switch from the RBS to Santander 123 account 4 weeks ago. To date, nothing has happened, Oh, I got a switch date and I've got a new account with Santander and a brand new debit card to boot but no switching of funds has taken place.
I rang the switch help desk 2 weeks ago to be told that there was some 'contradicting information'. They are giving it their full attention and they would advise me when it was sorted.
Guess what?....not a peep from anyone!
Wish I hadn't bothered now!0 -

Did you ask what the contradiction was? Could be some discrepancy in your address or name - worth asking them if you want to pursue the switch.0 -
Yes,
It turns out to be an 'outstanding mortgage'. or so they tried to say in some form of bankers mumbo jumbo language.
Why it is 'contradictory information' and where this has come from I do not know as the mortgage was paid off 5 weeks ago. There is also credit within the account to the tune of 25k.
I think I was well and truly fobbed off! This is before I was told that the 7 day switch guarantee now no longer applies!! Well, Well there's a Surprise!
This transfer 'waffle' has now lost its shine and I am beginning to lose interest (no pun intended).
I thought that these banks were slowly getting their acts together with some good strategies to help us mere mortals.
Believe it or not, it's just another load of old b....cks!0 -
Switched from HSBC to First Direct, no problems with the switch other than when I opened FD account I neglected to input my middle name - so had to fill in form to change this. FD advised me that (as someone has said above) the automated process would reject me without the middle name.
I even got the £125 incentive as that's when I opened the account, even though by the time I arranged the switch it was back down to £100 and had been for about 2 months!0 -
Looking to switch from Nationwide to NatWest. Need clarification of the following -
Does the switch include all incoming payments as well as DDs ?.
Will the account I switch from remain active (I have an overdraft on the account that I intend clear slowly (am on benefits))?.Never Knowingly Understood.
Member #1 of £1,000 challenge - £13.74/ £1000 (that's 1.374%)

Yes, it's supposed to, but I would still tell the companies paying in that my account details have changed. Will the account I switch from remain active (I have an overdraft on the account that I intend clear slowly (am on benefits))?.
No, it closes and you would need to make arrangements to pay off the overdraft if it isn't cleared off by the switching service (which I don't think it will be).43580 -
After reading this thread I don't think I'll be using the 7 day switch. I'd much rather keep everything under my own control, open the new account, and transfer things in stages myself.
I want to keep my old account anyway, in case I don't like the new place!0 -

I would agree with you.
But be aware, some of the switching bounties (e.g. FD, Halifax) will only get paid if you use the new bank's switcher service, and almost all banks only offer the full switcher service now that closes your old bank account. So if you still want the bounty, you need to get a bit creative0 -
