But it is still better than Windows 8.
If it is set up correctly you need never see the start screen.
My computer boots straight to the desktop, don't even need to put in a password.
It even remembers all my passwords and usernames and bank account numbers.
I should add that I am the only person who accesses my computer, even my wife doesn't touch it.0 -
my right click problem still there after defrag and cleaning, but its only first 5 mins, wonder if its programs loading that's the problem0

Back to almost normal speed now on 8-1 .
Checked auto run stuff .
Ran MSCONFIG diagnostic startup
reboot
Then from msconfig ran safe boot
Rebooted set startup back to normal.
reboot
Ran CCleaner including registry clean .
Ran Defrag .
Set no password at log on via user accounts
Run type netplwiz .
Now about to delete any old win 8 stuff left over from the install .0 -
Turns out it is possible to do a clean install of Win 8.1, even if you have a Win 8 Upgrade key. This is good news since for me a full re-install via the official method would involve me installing XP, then upgrading to 8 from DVD and finally to 8.1 via a 3.5 gig Windows Store download.
Only problem is you have to be a little bit naughty, though technically not illegal. Find a torrent of the Win 8.1 ISO and burn to disk. It should come with two product keys, one for Pro and one for Core. Those keys will work for installation but not activation.
Disconnect from any network, install from DVD using one of those keys.
Once the system is booted, skip any prompts to activate, open an admin command prompt and run SLUI.EXE 0x3
Enter the product key you paid for and Windows will activate.
The free media centre keys for Win8 will also install and activate just fine on 8.1.0 -
Anyone know if its at all possible to downgrade IE11 to IE10 (after upgrading to Windows 8.1)? I've read this isn't possible, but perhaps someone here knows better?

Microsoft have pulled 8.1 from their website due to major issues as of 2 hours ago. Check out mashable for more info.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?

That's Windows 8.1 RT it only applies to ARM-based tablets such as the non-pro version of the Microsoft Surface.
Nothing to worry about for the majority of people on PCs or Intel/AMD based tablets.0 -

That will teach me not to read things carefully. Glad to hear it's only some devices that are affected.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
