Anyone finding 8.1 slower, it takes longer to boot up and close down

Also if i right click on the start button and select something like "control panel" for example it takes around 10 seconds for that program to appear, if i click the same thing with classic shell its instant !, can someone please try there's :(

Yes, I found that too, I thought it was just me, the log-in page seemed to hang for an eternity last night, it seems better this morning.

The psuedo start button is not too bad, at least it gets you to where you want to be a little quicker. It lost all my appearance settings and replaced everything with vomit inducing images, the 8 wallpaper I had has disappeared completely, which is a shame as it was restful on the eye and easy to see the icons on. One thing I don't understand, why on earth aren't the appearance setting in one place, why make it so you have to go through those goddamn awful tiles to change your lock screen, wouldn't it make sense to put it in the usual place with the rest of the appearance settings?

Lastly, honestly, how can anyone take an OS seriously when it has charms.

It's been included with Windows for a while I think, since either Vista or 7.
It's certainly on my Win 7 Home 64 because I actually found a use for it on my desktop deleting old files for an application that fails to do so properly.

I personally 8.1, but then windows 8 didn't scare the living hell out of me either, despite the fact that it's, you know, different.
Quite right. It is different. It is also complete rubbish.

I haven't seen sight of the Service Pack yet, but it would need to be one spectactular update to sort out the Vista-like catastrophe that Microsoft have turned out.

The lack of information which Windows 8 throws up when something goes wrong is just abysmal. The problem with Windows 8 is not only the user interface, its the stupidity of the entire package.

FYI Win 8 Pro upgrade DVD is still available (about £50). This may be the cheapest way to upgrade to 8 (and then 8.1) ?

  • I love it, only thing is, it screwed up my access to my wife's Tesco credit card online.

It didn't screw up the access to your wife's credit card, the way you did the upgrade deleted all your cookies, and then you were not able to use the secondary security measure (a text to a mobile phone) to get back in again because your wife has switched her phone off.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
