Teachers on Strike

Lol. The OP certainly got the reaction he or she sought. Just one of those let's wind up stressed teacher posts. There will be plenty more and each time they will burn themselves out. Sad really.0

Exactly. Good well organised teachers don't spend all their spare time marking. Which is basically my argument.
My OH is well organised. However, she has still had to mark almost 300 books over the weekend and in the evenings last week. Those were for the kids she taught during last week. She is not complaining at all and she got the best results in her department this summer, but I really did feel I needed to point that out to you on her behalf.0 -
Exactly they get more money, more holidays and more benefits then a lot of other people. They should be grateful instead of being so greedy.
THey also come out of uni owing at least 20+k in student loans. So i dont think they are being greedy at all.RIP TJ. You my be gone, but never forgotten. Always in our hearts xxxHe is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.0 -
I don't know, I only know a small number of teachers (5) and they all appear to be good teachers as the schools they work at achieve a high passrate.
I would say that schools where the pupils achieve a high level of results probably have better teachers than a school where the results are poor. However that is just an assumption on my part and I have no factual evidence to back this up.
Schools can have very different catchment areas which can make a big difference in achievement whatever the teachers are like. My children all went to a good local grammar school, it had excellent results but it would do with the children who went there.
Two of my children are now teachers, one started their career in a school very like the school they went to, one started in an inner city school, children who did not speak English arrived quite regularly. Some of these children had never been to school in their country of origin and arrived at 13, 14 or 15 not speaking English with no experience school. Now if my two got different results do you think that was because one was a better teacher than the other or might it have something to do with who they were teaching?Sell £1500

Exactly.
Also, good holidays? yes, uninhibited mobility of those holidays? No. Unlike the private sector!0 -

That's true for pretty much every university graduate these days so this point is irrelevant. In fact until very recently you could get a golden hello so you were in fact better off than most graduates.0 -

It sounds like she leaves all her marking to the weekend. Leaving 300 books to be marked doesn't sound like good organisation at all.
I suppose at least it allows her to finish work at 3:30 during the week which isn't bad.0 -

How does it sound like she leaves marking to the weekends when the post specifically said:
"However, she has still had to mark almost 300 books over the weekend and in the evenings last week."0
