I think this is a really emotive one as I understand that they are trying to take a stand but it is difficult to accept that they will be fining parents for taking their children out of school in term time but it is okay for the teachers to interrupt our children's education??

The two are not in the least comparable, they are interrupting education, not missing it. Do you think that they just won't bother teaching the bits they should have taught the children during their strike?

I've been Money Tipped! Debt-free and Proud!
I don't mind that they are striking, but what i DO mind is that my oldest sons school only gave me 3 days notice.

My younger sons school gave us 5 days, which is still cutting it fine when you need to find childcare for work.
So i had to take the day off work.

And that's the problem isn't it!! Think the teachers would get a whole lot more sympathy from the general public if they did give reasonable notice.

Think you will find you are complaining about the same people that the teachers are complaining about ie the government....

But it's not the Government they are hurting....

    Teachers on Strike

A more truthful title would be 'some' teachers . There are a number of teaching unions who have NEVER been on strike.

But whose members still get the benefits gained when other teachers strike for them.
  • I understand that if Teachers are going on strike then obviously it would need to be in term time to make any impact. However it grates me that when it suits them, it is ok for kids not to go to school. However if parents try to take them out during term time then its a no no, and yes I know its the government that made that decision but maybe the Teachers should strike about that instead and they may get a bit of sympathy with their cause!! Maybe then the same government will then regulate all the holiday/flight tour operators so that they cannot increase their prices ten fold during school holidays :T

No , they get the rewards because they are better teachers.

... surely they could fit into most work environments.

Not if they are too far ingrained in the world of accademia.
