i have a really big bump and am not quite 32 weeks yet. the size 20 fit me at the moment, and i suppose i wouldn't be quite as huge after the birth as i am now. i only really bought them for after the birth if i'm in hospital, last time i was in for 5 days. i might start wearing them now though, i'm getting very porky lol!

I bought the size 12-14 Mothercare nighties with a few buttons down the front. They absolutely DROWNED me  I'm normally a 12 but only 5ft 2 and found these to be enormous.....and very unsexy! I packed them in my labour bag in case I needed to go into hospital during labour but as I didn't, I gave them to my Nan :D

LOL...I'm 5'2" as well, and I thought they were a bit long! But I'm a bit porkier than you, so they were a snugger fit. I'm not too bothered about them being sexy as I'll probably be one of those mums that spends the first 6 months in a nightmare twilight existance of feeding & exhaustion, with poo & sick all over whatever I'm wearing anyway

Sounds pretty normal to me :D

The trick is to wear only white or black....leaking milk doesn't show up on black tops and baby sick doesn't show on white tops.

16 months on and most of my clothes are still black and white. I automatically don't buy coloured tops as subconsciously I think I'm gonna get two big wet circles on my boobs even though I stopped feeding 3 months ago :D
Just run, run and keep on running!

  • I came across this while looking online for maternity clothes. Mamas & Papas is running their annual Midwife of the Year contest. If you have a really great midwife, one who you think has been brill with you during your pregnancy and/or birth, you can vote for her. If your midwife wins, she wins £1,000, her unit wins £1,000 and even better....you win £1,000 and your baby gets a £1,000 top up for his or her Child Trust Fund.

You can vote online - it's really quick and painless - or you can go into any of the Mamas & Papas stores and pick up a voting ballot there.

The online address is http://www.mamasandpapas.com/new/moy.htm. In surfing around their online store, they also have some nice sales going on. I treated myself to one of their hidden support vests for £15 and it's so comfortable, it's unreal.
  • Another tip for *concealing* breastmilk leakage is to wear patterned, colourful tops. You won't see the staining as readily.

    Hi all,

I'm coming a bit late to this thread, but wanted to recommend a great site that sells second-hand and nearly new maternity clothes:

    https://www.becomingmum.com

You can view the clothes online, reserve an item if you want it, then it's sent to you once you've paid. If you want to sell maternity clothes on the site you can do that too, you just pay a percentage to the site for selling the clothes on.

If there is something in particular you want, they will look out for it for you in future and then you get first dibs if it turns up. :T

    Happy hunting!

i tried on those size 20 nightshirts again last night and even the arms are tight - i think i must have got a dodgy set because i'm not big really. i wear size 18 maternity clothes and many of my size 18 stuff isn't maternity and it still fits. i'm still wearing the same nightclothes i wore before i got pregnant and my arms aren't fat anyway, they have even got thinner since i've been pregnant so i have no idea why these nightshirts are tight around the upper arm. ho hum ... mum's lent me a nightie too, it buttons all the way down. it's a bit thick and it's the most frumpy piece of clothing i ever saw, but you never know how many you need or how long you'll be in for. mum bought it for her own hospital stay but didn't use it, she was having a hystertectomy and being a very heavy bleeder she didn't want to ruin her favourite nightdresses so she bought cheap hideous ones for hospital lol! it was from peacocks or ethel austin or bon marche, something like that. a cheap shop. i'm a heavy bleeder too so she thought i might need it.

back to pregnancy moneysaving, mothercare have a sale on at the moment.

I am pretty jealous here i must admit..my usual size 10 trousers won't get past my knees anymore..not that i'd be able to button them around my belly anyway..he he
and my arms seem to have doubled in size at the top
ah well..this isn't a time to be making fashion statements..
I had fantasies of giving birth in a slinky black nightie, but will probably just end up in one of my b/fs rugby shirts...
as for the sales..i am annoyed as everything that is reduced is summer stuff, and as my baby will be born in early winter and i can't really afford shop for the future at the moment I can't really get anything.
My friend has however suggested discount outlets, apparantly the next one she went to had all last years winter stuff on ridiculous sale..so i may have to make a trip

Well I think I am officially 'huge'...my baby isn't due for another two months & today I went to put on my maternity jeans...which I last wore about two weeks ago..and I can't do them up! They were 'under the bump' style with the elasticated bits at the sides that you let out. Two weeks ago I still had one more button to let out, but today even at maximum expansion, they were far too uncomfortable.
And to cap it all my only other pair which were a bit roomier have just fallen apart at the waist...they have a gaping hole about 4 inches long. So I am down to one pair of jogger bottoms & a sundress.
The holey pair were from NEXt, so I'm going to take them back tomorrow for a refund & see if I can get another pair.

I went out and bought a hideous support bra, realy ugly. But I thought I'd be sensible. My boobs still ended up droopy after breast feeding, so in hind sight I wish I'd made the most of my veluptuos figure, and enjoyed a sexier garment, whilst I had the shape!
Appart from that, I just got slighty bigger baggier clothes from carboot sales, and raided my partners wardrobe.wore my usual pants( although had to borrow his for a couple of weeks after birth!).
The best tip my mum gave me was to put an elastic hair band through the button hole of my usual trousers (looped through itself) to reach the button, to extend the waistband.Just wear a long top which covers it and zip up.Only works for a few months though.
