Oops I never thought of loud music annoying the bump.I'm going to see -don't laugh- Kylie Minogue in Manchester on Thursday night ( hubbie 'lurves') her) & I'm 5 months at the moment. I bought the tickets before Xmas when I wasn't preg.

I don't think the baby's hearing is properly developed at 5 months...so maybe they can't hear anything anyway, however loud it is!

Also, which did people prefer, washable breast pads or disposable? I notice jellyhead used the washable, was that cos they were cheaper in the long run or just nicer against the skin? I'm going to have to actually start using some soon as although I'm only 5 months I am getting regular 'leakage', though luckily it's only been at night so far.

As for maternity clothes, I bought two pairs of maternity trousers from Next...had to get them there because they were the only ones that did them in a short leg, regular length just swamp me. Other than that I've bought a couple of cool cotton pretty maternity blouses (ex-next) from Ebay ready for the warmer weather...hardly worn, so good bargains to be had there. And a 3-pack of NEXT maternity vests also from Ebay for about £3...as I thought they'd be cool in summer, but can also be worn under other tops while it's spring.
Anything I don't use/doesn't fit/ is still in good condition post-preg can get re-sold, so I don't mind taking the risk that something doesn't fit. I've been lucky so far though.Still hoping to wear ordinary bikini-type knickers all the way through as they will just stay under the bump.

Someone else mentioned low-rise jogging bottoms, these are great! My bump is rather big for 5 months (according to everyone else, anyway) but I'm still wearing my low-rise jogging bottoms from before, they just rest under the bump.

I've been quite lucky with donations of second-hand stuff from a friend ...she gave me six maternity shirts, a big bag of baby clothes AND...a car seat!!

I should point out that a car seat is the one thing you shouldn't really get second-hand as it may have been damaged in an accident, but I know for certain this one hasn't, so I'm going to use it in my parent's car as they will need one occasionally.

  • i used disposable breastpads with my first two babies and home made washable ones for number 3 - the washable were much more comfy and pleasant to use - i found that they didn't leak thru as easily as the paper ones and they didn't stick to my boobs either.

i passed mine on to a friend later and she said they were better than the disp ones she had been using :D
:rotfl:five children? I must be mad........ :rotfl:

Re: loud music... I was, for some reason, very sensitive to loud noise when pregnant  We went to see the last James Bond film when I was 4-5 months, and this was in a brand-new, super-duper, extra loud surround sound cinema and I HATED it because it was so loud! (The film wasn't great either  ) But then, it's possible I might just be weird...

And about breast pads, again... I'm going to repeat myself but... I liked the idea of washable ones but they just weren't enough to cope with the amounts that were leaking out :o. But again, I'm probably in the minority :)

When I was pregnant with my youngest daughter - she coped quite well in utero with loud noises - I went to see Meatloaf when I was 30 weeks. Get yourself off to the festival and enjoy.

I remember when my wife was preganant I thin kwe watched the Bourne Supremacy at the cinema and there is one scene where it gets quite loud I think, I remember atthe time she pointed out the bump went a bit mad and started cartwheeling, it also did the same the one time she had a very spicy dish by accident in a Thai aswell...probably just bad timing but maybe just maybe they like to let you know they're paying attention:)

i haven't actually used breast pads at all, i've bought some washables for this time and have samples of disposables i'll also try, but last time around i never had any leaks and never produced any milk. this time around i had one leak a couple of weeks ago on the one breast, nothing since although there are lots of painful lumps there. so i can't really say which i prefer, having never had enough leakage to need them.

babies hear at around 22 weeks, maybe 24 but if it's very loud maybe they can pick up vibrations. my baby went mad to loud music at alton towers when i was standing near the speakers, i've never felt him move so much, that was around 25 weeks i suppose. now i'm 28/29 weeks i still only feel two or three movements per day, so that movement to the loud music was really something out of the ordinary for mcbaby. i don't know if it necessarily means they're upset though, they might be excited, having a little party :D

Can't find who said that they're leaking loads but to whoever it is, have you tried Lansinoh breast pads? They sell them in Mothercare and they have a weird gel inside them (like Always pads) that expands and soaks up much more milk than the other brands I tried.

I was leaking up aound 60mls of milk per breast during feeds and used breast shells (plastic cups that fit over your nipple) as pads couldn't cope but the Lansinoh ones were excellent if I didn't have my shells.

If you are breastfeeding and leak a lot you can sterilise breast shells and collect the milk, then freeze it in bags. You soon build up a nice little store of milk this way.

It's making me sad all this :( My baby (ummm... toddler) gave up breastfeeding 2 months ago....much to my disappointment
