Amusement arcades are great for finding money! My two boys 5 & 8 quickly realised when we were on holiday in May that it was much better to keep the 20p worth of 2ps I'd given them and spend their time checking the trays of the machines along with the floor for left behind money! They ended up with over £5 each in less than an hour! :D

  • Think I will be more vigilant when out :D I remember at school, students (including myself :O) would just throw loose change on the floor and there was on teacher in particularly who ALWAYS used to pick it up and take it home. I never understood why he did that... now I do :D x

I love finding money on the street, I have no shame i'll pick up every penny I see!!

I stick it all in a 2 litre coke bottle and so far this year it is just over half filled with my precious pennies!

I found a ten pound note on the floor when I was in the queue for a round of beers at the cricket in the summer. Whilst it was a great find, I had spent it within a few seconds of finding it!

A couple of weeks ago I found 2 pence pieces at work which I used today for a cup of tea. All my finds seem to get spent on drink for some reason!

I've heard that amongst the youth, peer pressure dictates that if you see money on the ground, or worse still if you drop money yourself, you don't pick it up, otherwise you get stigmatized as being poor.

    Unbelievably sad... :(

Reminds me of my youth when there was a local homeless guy who used to wait outside the cinema with a bucket for change.

Basically, you'd have people queing up to get in and they would amuse themselves by throwing loose change and this guy would go chasing it so you'd get people throwing it in opposite directions as far as they could so this would sprint like Linford Christie.

It was a source of great entertainment, although now that i'm a bit older and realise that it was quite a cruel thing to do.

However, when I think about it now the guy must have made a fortune.

I would throw about 50p in change (back in the days when 50p was probably worth up to two quid in today's money) each time I went and when you work out how many people were queuing and how many films were shown each day I think the joke may have been on us because he was probably 'earning' more money than most of the people mocking him were!

Agreed! A few months back, I watched two teenagers drop over 30p in small change on opening a purse, watch it fall, shrug and walk away. Me and two old ladies picked it up with no shame! :)

Working in a shop, I've seen so many teenagers chuck away coppers with their receipt.
And I can never understand the people who want to "get rid of all this change" and count out pennies for me, why not save the pennies I want to cry then the pounds look after themselves!

It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world

I have been saving all the coins I find in a jar since January this yea\r. I haven't counted it but know theres around £5.50 in, most I even found was 2 x £1 coins in the same day, otherwise its just pennies, 2p's and occasional 5 or 10p.
I love the story about the £100. On a similar note, about this time last year I knew of someone near me with cancer and stuck in his house. I have known the person about 4 years but not too well. I ended up buying him £20 worth of food as a gift for him as I knew money was tight for him and that he would appreciate it, nor could he get out. When I returned the trolley back in the supermarket car park, there was £20 note on the floor. I really appreciated it as I was skint too. best example of karma I have.
  • If you want roadkill go on a night out and don't drink! Since I started my health kick and am not drinking I've found LOADS of change along the "clubs" road in my town late at night. Probably because I'm the only one sober enough to see it!

  • I found £20 on the main street in the middle of a busy market! totally random.

I used it to buy a homeless guy a hog roast sarnie and give some of the local buskers a few quid. Easy come, easy go.
    Thinking critically since 1996....
  • I'm up to 46p this week (41p just yesterday). Quite good going and just a little bit closer to 1% of my debts. Feel like a human metal detector at the mo!
