  • Found £20 on a night out about a year ago just lying there next to the cash machine.

A good place to find money is at the bottom of swimming pools if you take a dive down with a snorkel :)

    Debt-free and Proud!
GTHOT, I think the general consensus is that it is surprising how much money is on the floor but in a typical week you won't be paying off a debt in full! But every penny helps and there are TONS of those being ignored by a good chunk of society!

Agreed I am going to look everywhere I can now! Might even go out just for that purpose too. :j
  • On holiday this year (Isle of Wight) my 10 year old was snorkeling about 30m away from the beach. I watched him make a number of determined dives down and eventually he came up holding a pair of £10 notes. They were apparently stuck to a rock. A great find and he spent it treating himself and his little brother to an hours surfboarding.

When I was a kid myself and a mate used to go to the stray in Harrogate after the fair had been in town. Armed with a trowel, metal detector we used to do very well especially if it had been raining when the fair was on.

When I was a teenager I worked in a town centre pub/nightclub and would regularly increase my wages through finding little gold coins and the occasional note (£20 was the most I got).

A few years ago I had to go into work on Saturday and found £10 in the car park (which let me treat my wife to lunch).

Best one I know of was when we were in a transit van coming back from a festival. It broke down on the M42 and one of my mates volunteered to walk to the emergency phone (days before mobiles). He came back clutching about £70 which was at the side of the motorway. He did end up slipping that to the driver of the tow truck to fit us all in though :)

    I LOVE finding money!

In the last 5 years or so I found 2x £20, 2x £5 and numerous coins on the street! I have no problem to bend down and pick it- in fact I
love to found 1 pences- I always think of it as a lucky penny!

I last found a £20 note in Tesco carpark late at night last winter- I felt bad about somebody loosing it but noby was around... So in I went to Tesco's and got £20 worth of food- I LOVE FREE FOOD!
:p "NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS FREE FOOD" :p

  • If you have an eagle eye you can always find coins on the ground, but the chances go higher in certain places. The main places I find money are at the counters of fast food places, in the field after car boot sales, and bars. Anywhere really, where people are taking money out of their pocket for something. If I noticed someone dropping money or leaving it at a cash machine or something, however when there is no owner or anybody around, it's fair game. It always surprises me that people are too proud or embarrassed to pick up money. Maybe I spent more time around the older generation because I was always taught the 'find a penny pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck'.

I reckon more people than not on MSE would pick it up. I remember hearing a story about an old couple who spent years putting away the money they found lying in the street. They turned it into a hobby. After a few decades they had saved 10's of thousands of pounds.

So, some people may find it strange, but every hundred quid starts with 2p.
  • I just found my first 1p!!! I went to pay in £10 at Lloyds that I had saved and at the counter was 1p just lying there. A bit dirty and old but still, money! Then the cashier tried to sell me something (they do that every time!) so politely told him no and that's why you're not my main account anymore.

Moved seats on the near empty bus this morning to get away from the blast of heat coming through. On my new seat lay 2 x 20p, 1 x 50p, 3 x 10p and numerous 1p and 2p coins. They must have slipped out of some guy's pocket. So got my fare for free today.
Always remember, every cloud has a silver lining:rotfl:
