Huh? Who is not legally obliged to do what?

See, that's what happens when you only start reading halfway through a conversation! Follow it back a bit. ;)

I read all the way through, thank you :D your post was missing pronouns and verbs and it was therefore difficult to decipher whether you were talking about churches being legally obliged to marry people, or people being legally obliged to conform to the church's expectations if they wanted to be married in the church.

Some denominations (mainly RC) will expect at least one of a couple to be christened so that you can marry in that church. Other denominations have no such requirement and still others do not practise infant baptism anyway, so there is no expectation of anyone to be christened.

Some church schools will give people christened into their denomination priority if the school is over-subscribed.

Christening as a baby (or indeed Believer's Baptism as an adult) is not a requirement for entry to heaven :).

Lets throw this one out there, if you not baptised you don't go to heaven...

What if there is no heaven (or hell)?

I am guessing its more just blackness, like going to sleep and not waking up, electrics in the brain stop and its all over. With that I am more than happy to be proved wrong.

What if there is no heaven (or hell)? Then there is no heaven or hell. We'll never know, will we?

Oblivion is the only viable alternative to eternal life imho.

I will say this next one is my personal opinion which does stand up logically at least.

Whats the different between and religion and a cult... approx 2000 years or more.

Can't say what happens when you've died, but in life Christening really only essential for certain Catholic schools.

If you want to involve the Church in your life (matrimony etc) most vicars seem ready to forget to ask a question or chase up on a reply (Your Mileage May Vary!).

Not as if it's complex anyway - some midwives can & do baptise really fragile newborns to bring a morsel of calm to very stressed parents - churches have been coping with that for decades.

Not sure I agree a christening for a child is meaningless (godparents are often a blessing eventually) but it is a complex reason for a party.

I don't understand your need to constantly troll this thread.

You have made it quite clear that you are not religious, and your posts have added nothing of value in regards to the OP's question.

Perhaps you could take your bigotry elsewhere ;)
