Boots scam?

  • I'm sorry to be the odd one out but I feel inclined to side with the op on this one. If Boots scale down an order due to it's large size they should still honour the special offer. Whether they sell me 10000 items at bogof or 10 items on bogof, half the items should be charged for and half should be free. As for greed, there have been a number of times when I have ordered a certain quantity of goods to meet the "free delivery" or "extra points" conditions. There can be all sorts of legit reasons why someone may want a large quantity of a certain item. I needed over 1000 orchid bags to hand out little gifts to wedding guests as they arrived, I also needed close to that number of trial packs of huggies and small packs of wipes. There was no scam involved or intention to sell on, but the kind SA's at boots did comment "What's he going to with those? Make a nappy bomb?"

Someone somewhere on another forum is probably whinging, moaning and moaning that there arent enough of those bogof offers around and they didnt get one.

People dont get what they want and they moan. People get what they want and moan.

    Moan moan moan.

I think Boots had every right to cancel. If I were Mr Boots I'd cancel the order too.

    Goodbye.
  • But that's exactly what they didn't do, instead of cancelling they decided to overcharge.

I think the main issue is lack of communication and common sense. First of all if they didnt want to sell 100 packs and only 50 to the OP, should they should only have charged for 25, as the BOGOF offer was still available. Second there should have been a comment regarding why there was a reduced number if packs, this allows the customer and support services no exactly the reason instead of everyone second guessing. As there wasnt an actually limit specified to the number of items you can buy then how are the customers supposed to know the limit?? At the end of the day Boots didnt have to give out the order but it would be good for them to give a reason why they didnt

If boots are selling BOGOFs then what does it matter to them if its one person wanting 100, or 50 people wanting 2? they get the same amount of payment for the goods, and have 49 less orders to process!
It is a fine line though isnt it, between being money concious on one hand and grabbing the bargins (what this site is about I thought):money: ,
yet morally concious of other money savers and not take the lot!

If companies have a limit of the amount you can buy, (which I think is a good idea in shops, to spread the bargins to more customers) then thats fine, I agree, stops people from being greedy, but on principle it was not on for boots to decide not to honor the BOGOF offer and process the order without contacting the OP.;)
  • Boots is also a chemist. I purchase mycil from there.
    Its not a bad outlet.

    Thanks,

As the original poster here, and not having come on here for some time due to the (I have to say sometimes idiotic and deliberately provocative) nature of some of the posts, I can now update as follows:

    1) Boots have accepted 100% that they were in the wrong for cancelling the "one free" element of the order, yet attempting to take full payment. They say they are revising their policies so that this never happens again.

    2) The quantity is and always was immaterial. There have been a large number of uninformed posts here that 100 packs of wipes is somehow so large an order that I deserved the actions of Boots. Boots have not made that argument at any time. They are 100% clear that I was fully entitled to order the amount I did and that their action in cancelling the "one free" item without refunding the charge was unjustified.

    3) I was perfectly entitled to call Boots initial actions in this case a potential scam and I fully stand by that claim. Boots too understand this well and, after earlier reluctance, were extremely anxious to settle with and placate me as time went on. Whether they deliberately did what they did or it was just happenstance I do not know. I do know that they were able to supply all of the "buy one" items of the order and not one of the "get one free" element and I admit this makes me suspicious.

    4) Boots later actions have reinforced that they have good customer service, they responded late but they did respond, and on balance I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
