Boots scam?

There was no way this was a minimum numbers restriction. That was not argued by the customer service at any time. I see quite a few of you are incredulous, I was as well, it took three long phone calls and three senior managers to agree to refund me the money for the product they did not supply. The answer up to the point I had to threaten trading standards and legal action was that we have supplied the product you paid for, even though it was a buy one, get one free offer, we are entitled to cancel the free element and charge you the full price.
I have no wish to slag Boots off, I have never had anything like this happen before. I am posting here because this is a rip off board and this looks like a rip off to me. If I had not been so strident I would have had half the quantity I had ordered and Boots were prepared to defend their outrageous position to the end.0 -
Hi Slarge, yes this is a warnings & rip off board. Its always good to hear about offers that aren't what they claim to be. May I ask how many items you ordered? From MSE Martin - Some General Tips On Holiday Home Organisations and Sales Meetings

I ordered 50 packs of wipes, which was 100 with the BOGOF offer. They delivered 50 and canceloled the 50 free. Hardly a quantity for setting up a wipes empire. I have 3 young kids and these last about 4 or 5 months.0 -

Go bait somewhere else idiot0 -
Im not being nasty here but I can see where Dave is coming from, I very much doubt any company would have honoured that amount.
May I ask what you were planning on doing with 100 packs of baby wipes? I suspect Boots thought you were planning on reselling them.0 -
I think Boots only fault here is that they didn't explain to you why they hadn't honoured that offer. generally in supermarkets you are only allowed 3 of any product on offer and while Boots may not have stated a number, by ordering 50 i think you were probably pushing it a bit too far.
However they should have said this to you when you first rung up, and offered to refund the order if returned. I think you were lucky to be refunded for the "product they had not supplied". Particularly as you hadn't paid for these in the first place.odi et amo0 -
I agree with Dave Booker........
You say Boots are on the scam !!!!!!!!!!
You were just trying to pull a fast one and got caught this time.....
Good old Boots for putting a stop to it I say......
AND what about all those genuine Money Saving mums that would not have got their freebies ?????0 -
I think I agree with some of the posters here about restricting quantity. 100 packs of baby wipes an awful lot! I buy wipes for the DGSs for here and to take over to DD and would never buy in that quantity. Just try to make use of the BOGOF when on (by the way think Pampers wipes about to come up again at Lidl for BOGOF). Most I usually buy is about 4 or maybe 6 packs max. We have two DGSs and another one imminent and do find various stores have the BOGOF offer often enough that we don't have to do a big stock up. Just buy when I see them to keep stocks up.
It was maybe that you did not get a proper explanation from CS.
A wee aside, I use them too for makeup and they are quite handy too to remove crayon, and felt pen overlaps etc from tables, stains on furniture so multi-purpose! Have even run them over my shoes and they come up gleaming! Very versatile!
I don't think a scam just a restriction on what you have ordered. Boots cannot afford to have their name associated with scams. I do go to other stores where offers and quite openly restricted to how many you buy - High Street and places like Costco. Maybe max 3 or so forth. It might be you just didn't read the conditions thoroughly.
I know you must have thought a bargain but I don't think my budget would have run to that many, even allowing for the BOGOF - we still have the bills to pay and food to buy. I do try to buy in bulk (going to Costco) but have to watch the monthly outgoings!

I take my hat off to you sludge, well spotted on the troll front. As it says on the right, even if you disagree, courtesy helps. They'll have to look for sport elsewhere.
Its a while since my kids needed wipes but I know we'd get through a pack reasonable quickly, & buying in bulk, especially on BOGOF makes MSE sense.
I think as Lizalu says, the main problem is not explainly why they sent & charged you for 50. If they'd sent you 10 and charged you 5, I suspect you'd have had a different opinion. Its the sending you 50 & charging you 50 (without explanation) that's caused the problem.
Well done on getting it a decent outcome for yourself, don't think I would've managed that. From MSE Martin - Some General Tips On Holiday Home Organisations and Sales Meetings
